Which new boiler (Edinburgh) and is this insurance settlement reasonable?

Options
Our Vokera combi boiler that must be 15+ years old has decided to burst its heat exchanger - the local service company organised by our boiler insurance says its beyond economic repair.

They have stated that the cost of repair would have been £634 is this a fair amount - it seems quite low given that the first estimate for a price of a new boiler was about £1622+VAT without a powerflush. Here's what one company are recommending.
1) Disconnect and remove the existing boiler and flue pipe
2) Supply and install a Worcester/Bosch 28I Junior Greenstar condensing combination boiler (this boiler comes with a five years parts and labour manufacturer’s warranty)
3) Extend the flue through the rear of the property and make opening as required
4) Supply and install a integral digital programmer to the boiler and wireless room thermostat to the hallway
5) Run a 22mm waste pipe from the new boiler to the nearest drainage pipe to accommodate the new boilers condensing waste water
6) Connect up the new boiler to the existing central heating system.
7) Install Multiple Equipotential bonding to the central heating supply pipes
8) Add Fernox F1 corrosion inhibitor to the system upon refill and commission the new boiler.
9) Remove all the debris from the property

Any idea if this is a fair price? Is this a good boiler to get, the other makes I've seen recommended here are Baxi, valliant and Veissmann.

Many many thanks.

It's a £300 extra, are they really necessary or just a bill bump?

it depends if you want a warentee on your new boiler because without a flush either manual or powerflush your warentee is null & void it's not an optional extra, look at it this way you wouldn't pay £1600+ to have a new engine in your car then tip all the crap from the old one into it, would you ?

I would also be fitting a magnaclean (or similar)

also make sure that price inc any gas pipe size upgrade as your existing one may not be big enough

So the total with powerflush + a fernox filter is £2019 EX VAT (£2422 inc) with no change to the gas supply.

Seems expensive to me given that the boiler itself is £800 plus I assume up to a couple of hundred pounds of consumables which makes the actual fitting charge about £1400 :(

Any ideas for what a reasonable price I should be aiming for?

You should be able to get this done for around £2000 tops, Get another couple of quotes. And ask your Insurance what they would give you as a settlement payout.

Insurance settlement was £640 estimated as the cost of replacing a heat exchanger plus internal water damage - seems low to me but I don't have any way to verify this or know how I could challenge it.
