Travel Insurance, birthday?

Hi I've bought my girlfriends travel insurance for next March as I'm surprising her on her birthday with a trip to New York. She is currently 17 and I have bought the insurance for her on the instance that she is 17 but at the start of March she will turn 18.

Will that invalidate the insurance?

  • Normally you would declare the details of the insured persons as at the start of cover. Given cover starts as soon as you buy it then you'd enter her details as at today rather than at the date of travel .

To be safe you should check with the insurance company in question
  • I wish my boyfriend would take me to New York!
If you have nothing good to say, say nothing at all
  • In my opinion, the starting date of insurance cover would be the time when you buy it and not the one when your girlfriend will travel. Its better if you consult to your insurance agent about the details.

I would imagine the policy asked for her DOB? If so, no issue!
  • I would also imagine the policy would require medical questions to be asked/answered at the application stage - how can OP honestly answer these?

I think most travel insurance policies only ask for unusual circumstances... I have taken out travel insurance for my OH plenty of times and nothing specific has ever been asked. If there are undeclared underlying conditions, I guess the policy will be void...
