Mushrrom growing - differences between spawn?

I know there are a number of varieties of mushroom spawn ( button/ oyster/flats etc) but is there any difference in the breeds & what they produce?

Ive seen some white button ones on ebay for 49p plus P&P, seem cheap- is there any reason why they wont work? I dont want to waste 10 weeks waiting for them if they arent going to work?

I have tried growing button mushrroms from spawns (sutton seeds). I have gone through the hassel of looking for a well rotted horse manure and all the palava of covering them for 14 days and making sure that the soil is moist each and everyday...NO LUCK!!! I still have another packet of spawns to plant and I'm going to try again...It might be another waste of time but its worth a try and maybe nxt time time I wont even bother planting mushrooms if I am still unsuccessful...:o

We bought a complete kit from woolies when they were on offer, £2.99, a few weeks ago. Not sure whether they are still doing them or not.

Did get to the point where we thought nothing was going to happen and put them under the stairs! What would you know but 2 days later we had mushrooms and are currently enjoying them....

do you have to have manure rotted?

theres no way we can get hold of this, maybe a set woulds be better, although we do tend to eat at least 1/4 a day, I do love em! Wondeirng whether the sets would yeild enough?
