TV setup for the best picture

Can anyone recommend how to set up the picture on their TV to get all the right brightness, contrast, sharpness, colours etc. I've got some DVD movies with a "THX Optimizer" on but don't have the glasses that are needed to do the colour setup.

A lot of it is personal preference and down to the type of TV you have.
We had a normal CRT TV and Contrast was up to about 90% and brightness was about 60-70% iirc. Now we have a plasma, they are both a lot lower, the only time I alter brightness is on some games on my Xbox360, but I alter the values on the Xbox to save me agro.
