Logged into my online bank and as my mortgage payment has gone out for this month my balance has come down to £40,000. I can't belive I have paid off £5500 since we started this - I am so pleased. I have just over £600 stoozed on a 0% credit card but I shall pay that off next month as the rate expires. I do have two holidays to pay for but that will be taken out of savings paid for by Ebaying, Quidco and a bit of gambling (risk free thanks to Quidco).

1 week to our holiday - can't wait and today I get to spend the whole day at home getting on top of my paperwork (I work from home).

Hope you all have a good day.

Not sure if this was a typo or not but, I'm with the Nationwide and have a fixed rate product and can overpay £500 a month rather than a year

Oops, definitely a typo, will amend, thanks for pointing it out!

    Aargh, just lost my update!

Great to hear everyone is doing so well!!!

Lots has happened since joining the MFWs! So I thought an update from me was in order.

It looks like the contract isn't going to be renewed past September, as the current company don't renew contracts over 12 months. So I will need to find something else. The current company is keen to take me on permanent, but haven't really come up with any appealing roles, so I am not sure this will happen. Will keep my options open.

Since finding out that my interest is calculated daily but reviewed annually, I got a bit deflated as I won't see my balance going down like some of you guys (jealous:D !) and decided instead to pay the money into the high interest account until December when I remortgage to a flexible product in the hope I can reduce the money owed to £120k (the interest rise will be shock enough!).

I think I will stick with Britannia as I have been happy with them and like the fact they are a mutual so you get a share of the profits!

Having said all that, I couldn't resist and overpaid £500 today! I have been keeping outgoings to a minimum to ensure that anything over at the end of the month is put in the mortgage pot!

So, I need to find another contract and the money in the high interest account will double up as a buffer to live on should it take a while to find a contract.
:D Thanks to MSE, I am mortgage free!:D

    ARGH!

Think this challenge has got to my subconscious now - I dreamt it was 2010 and we had all finished and had a big party to celebrate and none of you were how I imagined (Although we'd all paid off our mortgages!)

Very vague dream but - DD you were very short and for some reason I imagine you to be tall, Tallgirl you were tall, very glamourous and for some reason you wouldn't talk to me :-(!!!!

Very strange dream but it made me chuckle!!

Wow, that's fantastic!! Hey gang, let's all move our houses to Canada and then we can use our retirement fund to pay them off. We'll have to build a Canadian retirement fund first mind you, but that's just a minor point. I assume we then move our houses back to the UK?

I can't wait to laugh at my friends who haven't had the foresight to move their houses to Canada, build a Canadian retirement fund, use the fund to pay off their houses and then move their houses back to the UK. The fools!!! :rotfl:

p.s. Welcome to all the newbies!!

    Hi DD
I love the riff on Canada (have you seen satirewire.com about the Canadian warship, its great) but pleeeease, DD, nice DD, can I have a number please?? I've got my details to Tallgirl, but I need a number so she has somewhere to put me, so to speak (other than.... well, any number of places really :rotfl: ).

Did I look short, bald, fat and middle aged with a rumpled light blue shirt and loosened black tie?

I wonder how that could be?, though the description fits me to a tee! :rotfl:

  • I'm looking at ways to shave costs off things and OH said he fancied subscribing to napster (I think its around £10 a month) so my solution is to log onto the library's website, type in your card number and pin number and order cds from there. I might have to wait a while if its out on loan but its only about a quid to hire a cd (1/2 that if you do it on the kids card ;))
Just a little tip Ithought I'd share :)
