You're a bit early, we still have 2 days to go!!

Hmnn, I guess we have all done our bit this month and I doubt that anyone will do any more mortgage paying down in the next 2 days....

Oh, what the heck! I've updated the OP and moved the countdown to the 35 months!

YAYY! we managed 1 month on the quest! :)

Kaz Happy Birthday from me too.

Right I can now do a proper update asthe last once was very hasty.

    This month I have
Made overpayments of £580 on the mortgage
Added £500 to my offset savings
Earned £140 from Quidco (this goes into our holiday fund but it is still offset)

Just checked my wages for April and it looks like I have had a £122 pay rise so I have increased the amount I save from £500 to £600.
I have already got £80 pending from Quidco for May so should be a nice month. Will have to have a look at my expenses before I know if I have saved anymore this month.

Sounds like everyone is doing well DH is getting more interested in particular when I can now talk about morgage free in April 2010.

Thank you all! Off out to the pub for dinner in a minute and we're hoping for a bbq tomorrow. I will update on monday- need to see the exact balance and work out what payments have gone across because I paid my mobile phone cashback over to the mortgage account.
I have worked out a rough new budget for our shopping as I think we were high at £300 a month- It's the wine!!
I get quite impatient and think I'm going ever so slowly because it's been so long but then realise it's not been a whole month and think phew! (am I the only one?)
    See you all soon, Kaz.

  • Trolls don't bother me, it's sometimes amusing when they pick on someone their "own size" and you see them get a battering. I thought Penny was superb. I really did have to disguise my laugh as a coughing fit - not meant to be surfing & giggling in the office. Really funny.

EDIT: Hmnn!! Bit annoyed that she's never offered to pinch my bum, now that I come to think about it! :(

You have a perfectly lovely bum Dithering Dad, I'm 99% sure of that! I had a snigger at you trying to cover up your laugh in the office! SloppySaver tried his best to offend me I suppose by calling me Bum Pincher, poor thing! It could become a very apt name for me :rotfl: Shockingly he hasn't taken me up on my once in a lifetime offer but if you want to take his place I think I can oblige! As long as I don't have to follow rule number 3 - wearing a moustache :o

Checked my mortgage and it's showing the balance as £87,021 so the payment hasn't gone through yet - must be because it's a Saturday - slightly disappointed as had been looking forward to seeing it drop and updating on here!

Mini update: did virgin casino offer earlier today - wagered £55 but received £50 cashback through quidco and £25 cashback through virgin. Anyway ended up with £148 profit which of course will go towards target! Not recommended for people who may get addicted by the gambling aspect though!

Hi, just popped over from the DFW board and hope you don't mind but I would like to join.

Reason is that my debt free date for all my othe debts (apart from my Mortgage is 35 months - exactly the same as for your challenge so would be an extra tool to keep me focussed.

I desperately need to do this as my mortgage of £185k (ish) is interest only so I cannot make any inroads into this until the other stuff is repaid.

I see my total debt (mortgage + others) as being "one" as obviously they all need to be paid, so I hope you will allow me in (although won't be *too* offended if you say no)

My starting figure is whatever my signature says for my unsecured debt - I did have a look before I started typing but can't remember it (goldfish brain and all that). now edited to show £45247!!

    Hi all,

If it's Ok would love to join this thread/challenge.

Have been lurking around this board for months now - finally plucked up courage to post! Me and Mrs D have been on a quest to pay off our mortgage asap for the last 2 years. This sounds like a great challenge, may not make it in 3 years (Realistically 5 years is more like it), but will give it a go nonetheless. Hopefully joining this challenge will give us some inspiration.

Started with 120K, now down to around 102K in 2years. Currently looking to overpay around £1000 p/m, with 13 K in savings (12K in Isas, 1K is in instant access savings ready for new bathroom to be fitted - have actually had bathroom suite in spare bedroom for 2 years:D !!)

We live in a really old house (1870 ish) which needs some work doing, just finished rewiring, bathroom next, then we can finish off the bedroom in which the bathroom suite has been living! We are trying not to let the work interfere with the overpayments, but it can be difficult as I work away a lot and so generally have to employ people to do stuff rather than doing it myself (Currently writing this sat in hotel room in Turin - not as great as it sounds, mainly see hotels, airports and factories!)

Will add details to sig as soon as I find out how to!!

    Good luck

    DaleyD

Hi Hypno06 and DaleyD, welcome to the challenge! I've added you to the OP, so please let me know if I have got the figures wrong.

DaleyD, to change your signature click on User CP which is one of the links situated just under the "Welcome, DaleyD" box towards the top of this page. Then click on the "Edit signature" link on the left hand side panel. I have put a quest of paying off £120k in 3 yrs next to your name, if this is not achievable then have a think of a challenging target and then let me know and I'll update it. I also work away all the time - I'm currently working in Norway and can empathise with your unglamourous lifestyle of hotel bedrooms, airports (2 connecting flights in my case) & foreign industrial estates!! :)

P.S. HAPPY BIRTHDAY KAZ!! - I waited to say this until your actual birthday and then almost forgot!

    Hello all!

Was going to give you a final update for this month but just been informed that my DH Mr MEGAmoocow (Mr Minimoocow isn't macho enough . . . ) that he has accidently spent all his work expenses this weekend on the wrong card so has in effect added them to the mortgage . . . MEN  (Present company excepted of course ;) )

I wouldn't mind but had reminded him to use CC twice before he left as his work are hopeless at paying them back. So update will be a little delayed until he returns and I work out what he's put where! (Can't moan too much as it was an unexpected work trip he was only told about Friday 6pm and is suffering from lack of sleep methinks)

Anyhow - :j HAPPY BIRTHDAY:j to Kaz - hope you have a fantastic day!

And welcome to hypno6 and daleyd. Daleyd - I too was a lurker (for over a year) before this post finally inspired me to join in!
