Sent the details to TallGirl, but now which mortgage challenge can I join??
well done for beating target and reaching your own one, there's another MFi3, it's usually up at the top of the MF wannabe forum, think they might still be taking new challengees (if that's even a word!)Member of the first Mortgage Free in 3 challenge, no.19

Well i intended to pay off my £45k mortgage but instead reduced the balance to just over £13k. No lovely hols for us but a mixture of my OHs income going down ( not so good) and me giving up work so I could spend more time with my gorgeous girls ( definitely worth it!).
It's been a very frugal last 18 months with no OPs atall and I have ended up back doing some supply work to make ends meet but OH is due to start a new better paying job v. soon .
Just as this challenge ends we will be back in a position to start hammering the mortgage again! And whilst it was me who started the 'paying off the mortgage' mania in our house it's actually now my OH who has the most motivation to pay the last bit. I quite fancy a nice holiday!Member of mortgage free in 3. £13,000ish to go on mortgage but now running out of  money! Hard slog for this last bit!0 -
am holding out for my end of year mortgage statement - am anticipating a balance of around 14k
would have made a bigger dent but bought a mini convertible back in november ....
if it doesnt appear i will ring for a balance on monday
got fed up off waiting and didnt want to miss the chart AGAIN !!
balance as of today is £13,452.00 - reckon would have been about approx £11,000 if we hadnt bought the mini
not sure what is going to happen this year tho as we hoped to have it paid off by christmas but my husbands stroke has left things a bit up in the air - not sure when or if or how he will get back to work - currently on 6 months full pay sick leave but that will only take us up to july not sure whats going to happen after that
well done everyone and thanks so much tallgirl :T:j MFi3 wannabee :j

We went to the Galapagos islands. We thought about not going until we’d paid the mortgage off but it was our 5 year anniversary. In that 5 years we’ve bought our house, I did my masters degree, we both completed our PhDs and both finally got jobs so we thought that we’d achieved a lot. Also we were pretty far ahead with our target and figured it just wouldn’t be as special if we went after our actual anniversary. It was amazing and we saw so much more wildlife than I ever thought we would. It was definitely 9k well spent.
We’re planning our next big holiday now but that will definitely wait until we’ve paid the mortgage off.0 -

Wanted to point out this is the LAST DAY OF THE MFI3 THREAD.
I think we all deserve to sit down and raise a glass to ourselves, we've all worked hard to get to here, whether we got it all paid off or not.
This has to be one of the few threads on MSE that has never generated into a tit for tat slanging match with multiple posts with multiple quotes detailing who said what..:rotfl:
CHEERS EVERYONE!!
p.s. anyone got Martin's e-mail address??:money:
He should give us a write up in next week's newletter since we're the first MF challenge thread to celebrate our third birthday.:T
This obviously is one of the best ways to exact consumer revenge, by keeping millions of pounds of interest out of the bank's coffers.:DMember of the first Mortgage Free in 3 challenge, no.19
