I won't be joining another mortgage free challenge at any time
Because...
I will be down to less than £5,000 in a few days (just waiting for a cheque to clear - thanks to my mum!)
The last bit will be cleared by May hopefully, so that's my final mini challenge for MFIT. Clear it all by May!2009 CLEAR MORTGAGE:starmod: (17/2/09) LIVE ON 4K Q1:staradmin(£5,405) SAVE 30K (£9.500)0 -

no - to chase two rabbits and catch none means don't set yourself too many targets or challenges, as you'll not attian any of them - it waters things down.Member of the first Mortgage Free in 3 challenge, no.19
Balance 19th April '07 = minus £27,640

Looked at the One account balance the other day (just been paid) and it said only £100 to go! Obviously that will go up over the month and I have the credit card to pay off (xmas pressies and car insurance) but looks like if we are very good we'll be MF in Two!!!!:j
HOWEVER, also found out OH is being made redundant  so not good news - he's only been there 5 months or so and was loving it so he's obviously upset. He's hoping he can find a way to stay but so far all he knows is his department is being disbanded . . .
So we were looking forward to having a few more pennies to enjoy life but looks like we might have to be a bit frugal for a wee while longer but at least there is little danger of losing the house.
It does annoy me though that we have always been sensible and had savings while the rest of the country seemed to be frittering it away and yet now due to the slow down caused by people taking on too much debt (i.e. NOT US!!!) we are affected - it's just not fair.

Not quite with you on the One account thing - £100 to go? Wearing my dimwit hat today!
I am really sorry to hear about OH's job - especially as you say he really liked it but, also as you say, you're in a better position because of all your efforts with this challenge and you will not lose your house.
I'm totally with you on being annoyed that it really does seem to be those of us who have been sensible that are more affected by this "recession" - it is NOT fair. It's why we took our house off the market - just when we were getting into a position to get what we needed for my health and safety.
However, what goes around does always come around and our day will come - right guys?
Not terribly inspiring I know, but keep going MMC, it WILL be worth it in the end.Struggling too much wears a body out

Thanks SFG!
I meant when I checked the balance it said £100 overdrawn which means I have only £100 to pay off (but because I use it as a current account it will get more overdrawn as the month goes on IYSWIM so really I have more than that to go but I'm ignoring that as it makes me feel better!!!)
Yep it will certainly be worth it in the end - the plan was always to pay off the mortgage so I could give up work and have children and that's still the plan just a small hiccup of OH job to sort first!:j MFiT Club Member 14 :jMortgage Outstanding 01 April 2007 - £51,051

Well I've had a late night, and just before going to bed I decided I should have a look at my mortgage account and see if my transfer in has cleared.
It has :j :j :j
And my balance is now £39,246.67
So nice not to have it starting with a 4 any more... and to think that this time last year it started with a 5
Right, bedtime.Operation Get in Shape

Way to go on the £100 to go! That's fantastic news.:T Well done
Sorry to hear your OH is being made redundant, looking on the bright side he has recent experience of getting through interviews, has an up to date CV, and found a job he really liked - some people entering the job market will not have done any of those in a long time, and may have outdated skills into the bargain - it puts your OH in front in the selection process.
I totally agree with you about the people who have frittered away money (especially profit made from trading up houses and fuelling the boom or via credit cards they overspent on and can't pay back) Folk like us earning an ordinary wage doing our utmost to secure the roof over our heads while the government spends billions bailing out banks who got themselves into the position through pure greed!!
Honda starts a 4 month shutdown today - bad news for the car industry - they are providing good, honest, manufacturing jobs - where is the bailout for them? There's talk of one, but it may be too little late.:mad:Member of the first Mortgage Free in 3 challenge, no.19

Sorry to hear about you OH minimoocow, I hope he gets fixed up with another job very soon. Thank goodness you are paying off your mortgage though! I know what you mean about having to pay the price for all the debt and overborrowing in the country, we are all linked and it will affect everyone (pensions etc) but at least you are well placed to weather the storm and you can't beat having a roof over your head.
I have a one account too and have used stooze money to keep the balance down, it was in credit for a while due to stoozepot but I am now paying the lump sums back, I've got 2 more cards to pay and then will be done, it won't be worth doing any more now due to BT fees.
Keep up the good work!
