Well done everyone! Is it just me or does it seem to have become a way of life that we actually think before spending any money on anything, and are more conscious of where our money is going? I know I am.
We've not been doing that well MFi3 wise recently, but I've just confirmed the figures online and I qualify for the 10% bonus with Kleeneze this month. A minor miracle in itself as, you may or may not remember, I have MS and was without a car for nearly two weeks this sales period! Go me! I've had a few emails from guys higher up the plan than me (ie earning way more than me) congratulating me and telling me how brilliant I am. Wow! What a confidence booster that has been, I can tell you. I've even been asked to give a short testimonial at the next basic training in Falkirk on 7 February! Anyway, OH and I decided when I started with KLZ that any bonus cheques would go where - yes, you guessed it - straight to the mortgage fund! I'll find out next week how much it'll be - not clever enough to work that out yet - but it'll be around £60ish. Every little helps right? :money:
Last year was really quite a crap one emotionally and financially. If this start to 2009 continues and I can build a team under me (anyone need an extra income?), then who knows where we'll be this time next year. On the beach in Australia for 6 weeks would be good - MS, and many other things, don't like the cold! :cool2:Struggling too much wears a body out

Superfast Gran - it's really good to see you so cheerful and optimistic - hopefully you can leave 2008 behind you and 2009 is going to be a great year for you and your loved ones.:beer:Member of the first Mortgage Free in 3 challenge, no.19

well done SFG!
nice to hear some good news for a change.
I too am quite optimistic about this year but I am impatient now to get going! I'm back at work tonight and will be busy doing 12 hour shifts so time will whizz by from payday to payday hopefully!
Maybe we need to start another thread when this one finishes where we can all name our new personal goals?Save £12k in 2012 no.49 £10,250/£12,000

Thanks ailuro2 - I've been getting help from new, fast becoming close, friends - who are also Kleeneze distributors, making me happier than ever that I took up the business opportunity.
Christmas was quite sticky and the doc gave me a script for Prozac!!! However, thanks to Bert & Allison I'm on a more even keel with NO tabs! I still have blips, and probably will for some time, but am handling them much better.
I did think of sending you a PM but decided to do it this way to let others know that life is a constant learning curve that goes up and down all the time - and that I'm not always on a downer!

Thanks to you too! Good news is worth sharing, isn't it?
Good luck back at work - 12 hour shifts sounds tiring so look after yourself.
Another thread when this finishes would be good - it might help us stay focused on spending consciously so we can get more out of our money. That's not to say that we shouldn't just splurge occasionally;)Struggling too much wears a body out

Great news SFG
a good start to 2009.
I think a follow on thread would be great as we all know that not everyone will be mortgage free at the end of this challenge. What we do know is that everyone is going to be a lot closer than they were before we started and it would great to continue how people are doing in their quest to become mortgage free.
Perhaps at the end of the challenge DD could rename the thread so that we can keep everyone's story in the same place? I know some people on here are already signed up for the follow up thread, what do other people think?Official Mascot and Chief Cheerleader for the 'Mortgage Free in Three' Gang0 -
I think thats a great idea and then its all in one place. I would like to know what happens to everyone when the end date arrives.
I've spent all afternoon thinking about our finances (just for a change!) and have had a juggle around with savings and put another £500 into the mortgage making it £12500 which sounds better (and more lucky) than £13k! I have a little system going where I put any extra money (quidco etc...) into my mortgage 'pig' but its a virtual one pencilled into the cheque book running balance, when it gets to £100 I put it into another little 'piggy' and when that gets to £500 I pay off a lump sum into the mortgage. I know it sounds daft but little goals seem more achievable. Anyhoo, I had £250 in the various 'pigs' and my xmas 2009 savings had enough to make it up to £500!
This all might sound OCD ish but it works and my 'itch' has been relieved for a little while longerSave £12k in 2012 no.49 £10,250/£12,000

To be honest, given the length of the thread already and the fact that it'll be miles longer by the end of the three years, I would think it was better to start a new thread for "next stage" with a link in the first post to this thread...

re. the bees - what is your mortgage interest rate like? is it worth paying off some capital or converting it into a repayment mortgage?
DHW - you are so very determined, i can see you will pay your balance off way before the end of the year
well done to everyone for continuing on this challenge no matter how much or little you have paid off so far.....
we are just a month away coming off our 2yr fixed rate and moving onto our FD offset tracker. i am not looking forward to the juggling of finances over the next couple of months while it all transfers?! but am looking forward to getting on with the final 12 months of MFi3.
we are now permanently living without a credit card, and i actually like it!0 -
Is anyone looking at what to do when this challenge ends?
The main focus will of course be to continue to pay off the mortgage. We're hoping to be sub £ 20k by then. After we have finished that, then a holiday or two ( see previous posts ).
Our latest overpayment has been credited to our mortgage account so our new balance is £ 31878 :j
