Yes. I've been really lucky to get big City salary and bonuses in the past - some of which I threw at the mortgage as soon as I got them and some of which I put into savings and shares which are all now cashed in and off the mortgage. Still, these came at a very high price as I absolutely hated my job. Much better now I'm working to live rather than living to work!

Mortgage now standing at £199,219. Finally we are under the £200k barrier! :j Am really chuffed. Long way to go but a lovely milestone to have hit.

We are aiming to get the mortgage to a size whereby DH could if he chose stop working in town and get a job locally as he currently has a horrendous commute.

Fantastic news from all fronts. I can tell you that we are very close to hitting £1 million in payments since we started so can't wait for all the updates.

I have now got just £23k to pay and my Match Betting profits are up to £733, roll on 4 figures for that. It is nice to set small targets keeps you going.

Just looked at my shares, gosh are they pants at the moment. Glad I haven't got more than £2 worth as they have dropped by 1/4. My unit trust in Denmark is still looking OK, that would pay for the bathrooms but leaving it for now.

Everyone seems to be doing great! Well done, a £1 million in payments is phenomenal.

Some good news on our front also, DH picked up more than I had accounted for in the last two months. We'd forgotten that with him being a student until january he'd used hardly any of his tax-free allowance so his first two months wages were virtually tax-free.

This extra money is coming off the mortgage I'm glad to say.

On a down note our garage roof has just been fixed. That's costing £800, our conservatory needs completely rendering, and half of the windows in our house need replacing.

In the meantime I'm spending almost all my time applying for jobs and preparing for interviews. I have to give a 20 minute presentation to up to 17 people tomorrow before my interview even starts. And I had a telephone interview last friday and beforehand they sent me lots of scientific data and such to look through that I would have answer questions on in the interview so I spent a few days panicking they ask me really difficult stuff. And that was only to see if I was worth giving a second interview to! I'm beginning to think only an idiot would choose a career in science.

But if I could get the job from last friday, which is the most amazingly greatest bestest job in the entire world, we could start to overpay our mortgage by approximately £1500 a month more than we currently are:j

So please all keep your fingers crossed that I get a second interview
  • Ooo - Working Lunch on BBC2 talking about whether to save/pay off mortgage.

Damn! Work phoned right in the middle of it so I was obliged to turn the sound off the TV! Did anyone see it? The only bit I caught was that as loans may be more difficult to get in 12 months time, make sure you have good savings in place to for major purchases.
