• yay! Thanks for posting DD, we missed you!

I would say take all the trollish comments as a compliment as this thread is attracting some posts.

It is making me want to pay off my mortgage even faster, might even get it paid off quicker at this rate!

lol, lol, rotflol! :):)

Superfast gran, sorry to hear about your bad luck, I really hope things pick up for you.

Keep up the good work everyone, 30 months down the line we'll be lighting up cigars with £50 notes and having the last laugh!

• DD - thought you might have been on here all along - couldn't stay away eh?!

Superfast gran - Sorry to hear of all your problems - hope it gets better soon. It is unfortunate how we need a crisis to put things in perspective. And please get down to the doctors asap - you'll probably be fine (sounds like stress to me?!) but you'll worry until you know. I spend weeks concerned at having headaches and blurred vision - went to the optician and found out my prescription was way too strong and I don't really need glasses anymore - could have been solved much earlier if I hadn't been such a wimp!!!

Actually I think sometimes I need to put this challenge into perspective - it is only money after all!!!

Ahhhh, now I get it! In that case, go ahead and use the word!!Urban dictionary is obviously more hip than Oxford, and I obviously need to get with it!!:o
It would be nice to draw a line now under the whole debate about paying off your mortgage and lets all get back on track to actually doing exactly that...regardless of our own personal opinions because that is what they are, personal reasons for doing what we are doing.

Its good that people are expressing their opinions but the underlying fact is that everyone who is involved in this challenge wants to pay off their mortgage for whatever reason. I hope it all blows over and we hear from DD soon.

I suppose there is no right or wrong answer and we can all strive to live in perfect eharmony, respecting each others opinions while having very different ones of our own. I can see both sides and if people choose not to pay off their mortgages then thats fine but for me it is my goal and I am happy to continue.

Thanks to everyone for your support and btw here's a definition of a troll for those who don't know (lol!) http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=troll ;)

Ooooh you seem like a nice person - NOT!

Perhaps if you spent less time counting coins and mimicking scrooge you'd be a nice person.

It's true what they say about the tight fisted.

 Ok, if sponsoring a child makes me a scrooge then guilty as charged.

If 'lending' a friend 1k and telling him to pay it back when he's better off than me makes me a scrooge then guilty as charged.

If paying out to put 2 kids through uni makes me a scrooge then guilty as charged.

You really don't get it - it's NOT about being tightfisted, it's about deciding not to buy a Cafe Nero coffee 100 yds from work when you can get one free at work. Spending 1/2 hour to save £120 on car insurance (£240 hourly rate is not bad!). Earning £800 from quidco on things you would be buying. Opening a Nationwide account so you can get euros at a good rate. etc etc. I have the same lifestyle as before, but at a lower price.

And at the risk of encouraging this debate...... 'It's true what they say about the tight fisted' - what do they say?????

On another topic - FreedomGirl - what is 18866?????? Surely not another Scrooge opportunity I've missed?????? :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:
A positive attitude may not solve all your problems, but it will annoy enough people to make it worth the effort

Hi everyone

As regulars here will know there has been some difference of opinion on this and other threads recently.

This thread's been inspirational to many and it would be a huge shame to have to close it as well so what we'd like to ask is that anyone having issues with another poster rise above it and ignore it. If you have to, please put that person on your ignore list so that we can get the thread back on track and those that don't want to be involved in don't have to be.

Thanks for your help everyone

Take care

Andrea :)

Hi Guys

Just to further MSE Andreas comments

If there are posts that you feel are trollish or personal attacks please dont reply to them or talk about them - instead report them to abuse@moneysavingexpert.com.

I'm a volunteer to help the boards run smoothly, and I can move and merge posts there. Board guides are not moderators and don't read every post. If you spot an abusive or illegal post then please report it to abuse@moneysavingexpert.com (it's not part of my role to deal with abuse).

Just a friendly reminder :). As Andrea has said please keep this thread on track and rise above and report anything that you feel is abusive.

It would be a shame to close the thread. There is a small red triangle in the bottom left hand corner - use it rather than reply.

I like the idea of a percentage column I just did not think people would be interested as so many still have not updated. However if we are now going to delete the non-updater it would make perfect sense. If AnWsMum has already got that on her chart perhaps I could email you my chart and get you to update it and send it back to me. I am not that great with percentages and once it is set up it should update automatically.

So I am up for it if AnWsMum will help so get those PM's in

Hi all

Only just caught up on today's posts (make that yesterday's!) I am more than happy to help out with the percentages. So let's get as many people as possible on the new and updated chart.

Hi Karmacat,

Thanks for the tips. My problem is that I live about 2 minutes walk away from a 24hr Tesco extra, plus am at home at the moment :( Unfortunately, there's nothing stopping me talking a little walk and a break.

I've switched to cash only (this month's the first month, and it's working well) so I can't spend it if it's not in my wallet but...even so, it's £3 here and £4 there...I just must be very weak willed :o ...or their marketing and sales guys are very good :D. On the positive side I am picking up the bargains as I can go in at the right time. And I've done my first online shop with Tescos which, with vouchers, is also good...

Good luck with the mystery shopping...

FreedomGirl

Thanks FG! That *is* a problem, living so near to a money sink.... I'd do the same, use it as a reason for a break.... I shop online, as I loathe carrying bags and live miles from the nearest cheap supermarket, but I always make sure now that I get deliveries on the cheap days, which makes quite a difference right away.

Morning all.....

I like the idea of adding the percentages paid off. I always find it spurs me on to see the % climbing.

For anyone who wants to check a % before a new table comes out(and sorry if it's already been mentioned), but there's a very easy way to quickly work it out. Take the amount paid off and divide by the total you started with and there's your figure.

i.e. Your mortgage is £100k and you've paid off £20K. Divide 20K by 100k and you get 0.2 = 20%. On £150K, it comes out at 13.33%.

Don't ask me how to automatically do it on a spreadsheet though - my maths abilities are not that good!
