Hi DH
Thanks for this. I used to stooze..... I don't think I could get hold of the money quickly enough. And I don't want to delay it. The porch is so horrible that clients are commenting on it, and I don't like going out there - I'd like to sit in the garden right now, but I don't want to go through the porch more than I have to, so I'm not. Its really, really nasty. I think I'm just going to try really hard to scrape every available bit of cash together (including the "stash", which is a family tradition, and as a single woman living alone I like to have), and try to sort it. The builder is from the local organisation that recommends honourable builders, and lives two roads away - I think that combination of factors means he'll do a really good job. You've given me some stuffto think about tho, thank you!2023: the year I get to buy a car0 -
:j Well, I'm pleased again. Life is a bit of a roller-coaster for me, can you tell?:rotfl: I've been sat here all morning, checking out breadmakers (no) and working out where all the bits of money are - I have 3 more accounts than I used to, because of various tips on here, but now that they're open, I don't actually use the accounts, like the Tesco deal for extra clubcard points. So if I close that, and run down the balance in my current account and my savings account, I have the money to do it now! And not cut into my TOISA!!!!
Leaves me with just under a couple of grand extra cash, 25% of which will be needed next month to fund the bl*sted apartment in France that is currently such a moneypit, but will actually be 25% or so of my income as a pensioner. Okay. I'm breathing again, and vv happy. Off now to play in the sun, and go get my Tesco money.2023: the year I get to buy a car0 -
I won't be making any overpayments for a while. I have joined the £1,000 in 4 months challenge and will be paying off the lump sum I manage to earn at the end of that challenge probably.
Please ensure I am kept on the chart though, I will still be popping in from time to time. I am just using the other challenge for extra motivation!Dream of being mortgage free....

Hi again Karmacat,
just had a thought, could you get the porch knocked down and leave it for a while before its rebuilt?
The porch would be gone and it would give you time to save up a bit more...?Save £12k in 2012 no.49 £10,250/£12,000

Cor blimey things have moved on apace in here!
Karmacat - what is it you do for DFW? Glad you can get your porch done after all without touching your toisa (that sounds quite funny when you read it out!)
DH well done on the 2k! Seriously impressed and your kids sound amazing!MFW Challenge member no. 96 - on hold!

"Hi again Karmacat,

Um, no, sorry - knocking down the porch exposes an old doorway into the kitchen, which isn't bricked up, its just a couple of layers of mdf with insulation foam between them. Its as secure as a window, I suppose, but if it got rained on it would sort of curl up and die! The truth is, tho, its disgusting. I've had comments that people weren't sure if anyone lived here, as the house looks derelict, and the porch is part of that (tho also part of it is how I've let the bushes in the front garden become mini-trees).
From Mountain Lioness:
"Karmacat - what is it you do for DFW? Glad you can get your porch done after all without touching your toisa (that sounds quite funny when you read it out!)"
It does sound funny doesn't it, it rhymes! I'm really glad about the not-touching-toisa as well (its starting to sound obscene!). That toisa was an alternative to putting the money in my pension, since I've been self employed for that long (went fully self employed, after contracting for about 3 years, in 1990). As to what it is I do for dfw? Anything I understand, really. Surveys, clicks, free trials that give cashback, bit of mystery shopping now, accounts that give me extra stuff, southernscouser's little wheeze, cutting down, selling on amazon, selling SFX mags thru SFX classifieds, tried to sell lots of SF mags locally through second hand shop but no go. Can't think of anything else. Have you got any extra ideas?? All gratefully received! I can understand the principles of matched betting, but the practicalities have escaped me so far.2023: the year I get to buy a car0 -

Might be jumping the gun a bit here but what do you MFI3 guys intend to do when you have paid off your mortgage?
I'll start you off...I'm going to save up a years worth of money to live on in a cash ISA so we don't have to be so much of a wage slave, DH will probably give up his job and do temp work, carry on living frugally and work less hours which will give us more time to spend as a family.
I keep this in mind everyday as it keeps me focused and I find that I don't really need/want all the superfluous unneccessary stuff.Save £12k in 2012 no.49 £10,250/£12,000

It's too far off for us - I can't imagine what stage of life we'll be at... will we have children? If so, then time would be best, both of us going part-time would be brilliant. We could definitely live off the reduced salary as the mortgage is currently 40% of our joint income... If we didn't then I'd love to take a year out and travel with DH.MFW Challenge member no. 96 - on hold!

Im very aware that once my children leave school, my income will go down (no maintenance and a lot less tax credits), so, without the mortgage, our standard of living wont change.
Of course - i could meet that millionaire who will sweep me off my feet - but then i wake up again!!!0
