In a rush to buy car so went to garage and agreed deal. Paid £50 deposit, but car has not been ordered yet or finance sorted. Am I legally bound to buy it as I have seen a much better package on the net!!! PLease help me..pref this am as I am sure that the garage will be ringing me today to make further arrangements.
Can I simply say that I am withdrawing,,,and obviously they keep the £50?

Not bought a new car before.....

Buy at haste blah blah!!!

Thanks in advance :)

  • MMmm not sure about his one, bumping for someone who might.

Have you signed anything? If not I am sure you won't be bound for anything, they cant drag you kicking and screaming into the showroom and force you to go ahead with finance etc....

As for getting your £50 back, I'm not sure??

As the car is not ordered and you have not signed any agreement to pay for it I think you may be in luck. I would show the dealer you gave the £50 to the details of the cheaper place, and ask if they can match it. If not say you do not wish to complete the purchase, and ask for the £50 back - but be polite as possible (even though they will see it as a smack in the face no matter how politely you put it as it's a sale lost). You might have difficulty getting the £50 back. Chances are they just want that to make sure you're serious about buying (to try prevent you cancelling).

Either that or never go back and consider it £50 lost.

£50 deposit for a new car is small. Most are now £500 ish. Did you sign anything? If not they have no comeback, and if you did sign something then readt the terms, but chances are you will be OK and will just have to lose the £50 - put it down to experience and dont be so hasty next time!
