I have asked for a detailed explanation of why it has been terminated.
I just dread every letter that comes through the post now.
Please don't stress too much about this. I know that's easy for me to say but you need to understand the processes around disputing the overpayments.
1. ask in writing (recorded delivery) for a full explanation of every overpayment on your claim i.e. all years involved. At the same time ask for a copy of all your phone calls and correspondence etc this is a Subject Access Request. You really can't dispute this if you are blind to what they say is the cause of the overpayment.
2. read their response and examine all the correspondence they send you before disputing all the years you disagree with. If you need help desiphering it all go to the CAB they are very good. Whilst you have a dispute in progress (and not when you've asked for the explanation) they will suspend the recovery of any overpayment outstanding so you shouldn't receive any demanding letters.
3. Read their decision regarding your dispute and if they still say you have to pay it back then you can ask for a review providing you give further evidence. Note that after they give you their decision re the dispute they will lift the suspension and will start sending you demanding letters again.
When you go on this path you need to know that each time you write the post will go to a different person to be dealt with so it would be a good idea and will also prevent delays if you enclose copies of your correspondence and indeed theirs because if you don't the new person working the case will have to wait whilst all previous correspondence is recalled from central storage which might not necessarily be on the same side of the Irish Sea let alone building.
