Hi everyone just after a little help as im going insane slowly
just bought a new surround sound system and wanting to hook everything up to it including the PS3 sky hd the tv.
every thing is connected via hdmi cables but i also have an optical cable. i dont get any sound from the tv nor the ps3 or sky box yet if i play a dvd that works fine, im assuming this is because the dvd player is part of the surround sound system and not external.
sorry for going on but its driving me nuts
my surround sound system is the panasonic btt490
any help would be great

Hmm. OK Let's stick with the PS3 as I might have a solution for that. Just with an HDMI going from it to the Panasonic. You need to go into the settings in the PS3, sound settings, and go through the little guide - you want to make sure it's outputting sound over HDMI, there are some choices.
How's that?
Sky box confuses me, there aren't really any options here. Can you go into the sound settings and change from Dolby Digital to Stereo to see if it works? Dolby Digital is the setting you want really. You DO need the optical connection for 5.1 from the Sky box to work, so you might want to connect that, but I'm sure you'll need to select it within the input options on the Panasonic.0 -
it would appear you system has 2 HDMI inputs and one optical.
Be sure to follow the advice above and make sure the devices are outputting sound correctly for the set up.
Also you probably need to change the something on the 5.1 system on the front or via remote to specify what device you want to listen to.
there is no real need to plumb the tv in as the sky plus box is what should be outputting your sound for telly viewing.Better in my pocket than theirs :rotfl:0
