Hey,
I was just looking for some advice. I've searched for some basic information and I'm not getting much feed back, our dream now is to emigrate, ideally for secure reasons to transfer to US army. Is this possible? O/H been in infantry 12 years is a corporal with loads of operational tour experience (N.I, Iraq, Afghan etc) Peace keeping tours.. List goes on & on. A friend of his in his BN is going through the process of transferring to the Australian Army, I was wondering if you can do the same for US. Any help would be appreciated. :T xx

No you can't tranfer, Australia is a commonwealth nation with strong ties. USA is not, if he goes in their forces he will probably be a recruit again it is very unlikely he will be able to join at the same rank. The truth may be out there, but the lies are inside your head. Terry Pratchett

The short (and, admittedly, not very "definitive") answer is that it depends what they are looking for. Certainly the Australian and New Zealand armed forces are good at tempting UK troops/sailors to their cause.
Have a look on the Australian Defense Force recruitment websites and see what their 'pinch points' currently are. (http://www.defencejobs.gov.au/recruitmentcentre/canIJoin/overseasApplicants/army.aspx
On first glance it doesnt look like general infantry are in much demand, but I dont know about any specialist skills/adquals that your hubby might have.....
Pay and resettlement packages are usually good IF you are what they need. He may be able to hold on to his rank, he may not - I know a few fellow RN officers/Senior Rates who have either transferred over and kept their rank, or reduced one rank lower for a probation period before striping back up again on completion.

Infantry, corporal or not, is not much of a qualification unless as stated he has a trade skill like medic...even then, a qualification in one country isn't necessarily seen as acceptable to another country's standards. E.G even in UK a forces medical qual. cuts no ice at all when joining UK ambulance service (personal experience) ...it might clinch the job but you still have to do the civvy training. Alternatively why doesn't your husband go into close protection? If he doesn't care which army he joins he's already a mercenary!0
