Where is the best place to invest, in the UK or abroad?
The UK market may be difficult to enter however it is a safer investment. Overseas markets may be easier to enter however the risk could be significantly higher.

Why does it need to be one or the other? A balanced portfolio would normally include bothRemember the saying: if it looks too good to be true it almost certainly is.0

I am intrigued as to why you think the UK market is more difficult to enter than overseas? Both are equally easily accessible especially if you do so via funds - if buying individual shares then arguably the UK is easier if you are UK based.
I do agree with Jimjames that a balanced portfolio should include both!0 -

If you want a 50% US portfolio with virtually nothing in the expanding emerging and far east countries fair enough. If you want something a bit more balanced you need to do some more investigation.
As always you need to decide in which countries/industries you what to invest and then choose the fund/funds which meet your objective.0 -

I guess what I would ask myself is - which area is at risk of NOT growing? If that is the UK for you then by all means go ahead
