    There is a free version of macrium as above.

    Tune up software of any kind is bloat.

    I install antivirus first then run Windows Update, Firefox (including any addons eg. Flash) and Chrome next, finally 7-Zip and VLC . And that's it, I then install software only as needed.

    Email: I use the webmail which in pretty much all cases is better than a client, I use Chrome and stay signed in all the time, it will even give you pop ups for new mail if you use Gmail.

    Since you also say you need word processing I would also install LibreOffice from the start.
