ESA Question

I have recently changed from JSA to ESA as my doctor signed me off due to depression/anxiety.

With JSA I got extra money because I was on DLA- is this the same with ESA? As they haven't given it to me.

the assessment rate is £71 a week (for over 25's)
if you go onto the main phase it will rise to around £98 a week for WRAG or £105 for support group
  • A disability premium is not payable within ESA because this is replaced by the work-related activity component or support group component depending on which you qualify for after your assessment. However the severe disability premium and enhanced disability premiums are payable in ESA if you qualify (e.g. have DLA at MRC or HRC).

I get the old rates that I used to get on JSA (£125ish a week - under 25). I'm on ESA assessment rate (appealing).

I'd try contacting them and asking for an explanation.
  • I get IR ESA and get EDP called disability premium on the award - currently £21.30 for couple (£14.80 if single) and I get HRM and LRC DLA, so which of the last 2 qualifies me for it or is just the fact that I am in the support group.

As I understand it, from memory - I've not checked this.
The disability premium on JSA is payable if you are on any rate of DLA.
The similar disability premium on ESA is only payable to those either in the support group, or entitled to the medium rate of care or above.

Horseunderwater gets the disability premium as they are in the support group - DLA isn't a factor.
