Plumbing only forum

Anyone noticed that there is a growing majority of plumbing queries as against random home issues here on the forum?

When I looked in today 5 of the 10 most reasons were direct plumber issues.

Don't read any ulterior reasoning into this, just find it odd. Add your own if you wish.
I like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.

Will the grammar and spelling police respect I do make grammatical errors, and have carp spelling, no need to remind me.;)

Along with electrics, plumbing would be the one thing that people notice the faults on the soonest as every one of us has to use plumbing in some capacity everyday. And given that plumbers now charge more than
£1 million pounds an hour to come out, it's hardly surprising that people will try and either DIY or will seek advice on a forum about the anticipated cost of work.

Along with most of my previous plumbing issues being discovered either at weekends or Christmas (or both). Thanks mainly to this forum (also joined a plumbers forum but this one has been far better) I'm now happy to deal with most small plumbing jobs - changing taps, radiators, fixing leaks.

I'd do the same for electrical work but regulations, along with the increased risk of death, have stopped me from doing any major work.

Well I can't fault you on that one, there is nothing worse than asking a simple question on a forum and getting shoot down for being outside of the fraternity of the highly protective trades that inhabit such places.
Nothing like the issue here on what we all have to accept by posting, is all about saving money (safely, as a caveat). ;);)

Plumbers and electricians are clever enough not to tell anyone how to do things as well.
Ask how to tile your bathroom or lay your new flooring and someone will talk you through step by step, even tell you where to get all the stuff a trade price, usually whilst they sit at home with no work, wondering why.
But those pesky plumbers and sparkies, they keep their trade secrets , well very secret.
The most you can hope for is a DIY Bodger who got it right to offer some advice.
Probably why they can charge £100's an hour.
    Be happy...;)

  • I desperately need some help/advice - I've not changed any setting on the heating - it is set to come on for an hour each morning and about 4 hours in the evening. It's set to heat to 18 degrees and when off not drop below 15.

Last week one radiator started banging and was very very hot - too hot to touch! all radiators have been bled so no air or issues. I turned off this radiator!

Now more radiators are banging and are burning hot. Ive therefore had to switch the heating off and deal with a shivering, teeth chattering child :-(

Please can someone give me some advice urgently x

My only advice would be to post a new thread. It will be seen by a lot more people than if you post within an existing thread.

They were actually all quite helpful. On that occasion I got some useful advice, better than on here. I guess with a forum as broad as this you don't always get the attention of someone with (and willing to share) the knowledge.

I think since then I've managed to find the answers to all my questions here or with the help of Google so never had to stray any further.
  • Often with plumbing it is difficult to diagnose problems without having a good insight into the layout of the building and the system installation. I have often read threads and tried to build a mental picture but it can be so easy to not hit on the correct answer. I say this as one who was indentured into the trade in 1952 and worked in all aspects till 2006. Give me 10mins to do a site inspection and I can probably come up with an answer but often from the airey fairey information given you have to start asking a ot of questions to give a useful answer and it is amazing how often when you do that you find the OP does not respond
