  • Hi
Well done on finding a landlord that will actually accpet housing beneifit, which in my area is rare, as far as im aware, housing beneifit will not help with the deposit or first months rent, if you was on income support, you could asked for a crisis loan, but I doubt you would get the full amont you need for a deposit etc , I do not know how much it is your way, but they wont give no more than £500-600 I think, and thats will be at a push, then you still have to repay it back, this is only if you are claiming income support only tho, otherwise there is no help whats so ever, I was in a similar situation last year, where I could not afford the deposits and 1st month rent, my borough had nothing to offer, and its same throught the country as in benefits wise, sorry but the goverment dont really care, they worry more if your an immigrant in that respect, but Good Luck.
  • There are new regulations on deposit requirements now if renting privately...not too sure exactly what they are but maybe someone else here knows:confused:

Some councils do offer some financial help on deposits but you would need to check and there may also be some charities and would be worth visiting the CAB office.

If you're getting housing benefit, ask your council about Accredited Letting Scheme (ALS). We have been accepted in our borough, but waiting for baby to be born so we could qualify for a bigger proerty, now we live in emergency studio. So basically, if you're accepted, council pays for the deposit and first month's rent as they will need to reajust your benefit.
    Good luck!
