British Gas 'Customer Service' con?

I have seen numerous examples of this happening, where people do not follow the correct proceedures and the energy industry gets defrauded.
If a customer is disputing a final withdrawl reading and the agreed reads are taking forever to go through a copy of the new suppliers bill, showing the start read, can be requested from the customer. I have seen lots of obvious 'doctored' bills but I'm sure I have missed the odd few.
The account gets rebilled to the new lower read, the customer pays and the account gets archived. Nobody ever looks at it again. It does happen.
I am a Centrica employee btw.

I've just been through this process with British Gas.
I just returned the "talk to you" letter in the pre-paid envelope with a note to provide the final bill. If you don't call them, they eventually call you!!
They want a final reading. I told them to confirm it with the new supplier who had my final reading to avoid discrepancies. BG said the new supplier would not give them the number. I suggested they tried again as both parties are required to agree final and start readings. I'd had a discrepancy before with BG and a lot of problems sorting it out.
At the end BG offered me 15% discount on their dual fuel on line rates!
I've still moved to EBICO.0 -
It's may 06 now and there is still no alternative number listed on 'say no to 0870' which is a shame, as it's a good site.
I wonder if it is a special number for leavers which is not used much.
I too am using FJSRiDER mentality, and refuse to call them, I'm more worried about being put on hold by them then anything else. I'll probably wait for them to call me.
I refuse to pay them so that they can try to retain me, they should be going out of their way to contact me if they want me to stay.
If all they want is my meter reading, I just went to their website to submit it to them.

Has anyone thought of ringing them and asking them to call straight back?
Sometimes if you ask nicely you get what you ask for.
Incidentally, if BG has your closing read on the day you move out, they can actually prepare you for how much the final bill will be. Rather than you waiting to see what comes in the post, ASSUMING that the new supplier does what they are supposed to (electric accounts used to present huge problems for new contracts with pending turn-on orders getting 'stuck' and such like).
Why risk it, just give them the read(s)!It's BOUGHT (to Buy), not BROUGHT (to bring) AND you cannot be frauded, only DEfrauded.
