Advice Needed

Hi,

I just need a quick bit of advice on whether i would be entitled to any help.

I will have to stop working for 2 weeks soon as my partner will be visiting her family abroad and i will be looking after my son. There is no family that can help out and i can't afford babysitting. I am basically on a agency contract and just get paid for what i do and have no holiday left.

For those 2 weeks can i get any help with rent and council tax as i will have no money wages coming in. Otherwise i wont be able to afford anything, i will have some working tax credits but not enough for rent, tax, bills etc.

Thanks

  • I would phone the Jobcentre Plus 0800 055 6688 and ask them, I'm not sure if you'll get any money, but they may be able to help you temporarily. Dont know if they will because your wife is going away willingly just for a visit, they might do if there has been a death in the family or something like that. But its worth phoning and asking.

I'd suggest you start putting some money aside now to cover those two weeks off work. Could your wife not take your son with her? Does your holiday "clock" not restart in January?

Where is the money coming from to pay for your wife's holiday? Do you think it's right that you should be "entitled" to help from taxpayers to subsidise that holiday?
