Car hit me and drove off do I need to tell my insurance?
Hi all,
Well today I was driving and a car that was turning right at a junction drove towards me I swerved out of the way slightly but they still hit my right quarter and have left a big nasty dent and gash there. Luckily it looks like it's not damaged anything inportant in the car and I was ok slightly freaked and kinda pulled my neck but I think that was me being tense lol!!
So after they sat there in the middle of a junction (very dangerous) I pulled forward and signalled to the side of the road near to me to tell them I was going in there this was with my hands out of the car.... I noticed they instead of turning and coming into the section where I was they carried on driving the way they were going to go and drove off.
There was a police car that they were blocking from moving that then drove off in the direction they were heading. They didn't stop or anything.
So I've been to the police and I have written my statement and drawn my picture but I have not got their details. Hopefully the CCTV that it there can pick this up it will also show them clearly at fault.
Has anyone been in this situation and what happened etc? How did the police respond etc.
However do I need to tell my insurance about this as I don't intend to claim off of them. It wouldn't be worth the excess. Plus I haven't got this particulary at this time of year!!
Thank you in advance.

If the police caught them its probably best to inform your insurance.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0

So far as I know, your insurance company will ask, at the time of renewal, if you have been involved in any kind of incident, irrespective of whether or not an insurance claim was involved.
But your current contract cannot be changed - it's terms are based on what you told each other at the time.0 -
Thanks guys...in all honesty I doubt that the police will catch them they were not very optimistic when I spoke to them as I have to go on is "White Smallish car" in my statement.
It's so frustrating! Grrr!A lot of fellows nowadays have a B.A., M.D., or Ph.D. Unfortunately, they don't have a J.O.B."0 -
Strictly speaking, you are supposed to tell them.
But since you have no intention of claiming, and the other party is nowhere to be found, I wouldn't bother, it will just put your insurance up next year for no good reason.0 -
Hey an update as I know how frustating it can be following threads to have none!!
Didn't tell them...didn't see the point... the police also got back to me nothing they can do as I didn't get the reg... oh well a dented door was a nice present before Christmas!! lol!!A lot of fellows nowadays have a B.A., M.D., or Ph.D. Unfortunately, they don't have a J.O.B."0 -
Yes you should tell and state 'for information purposes' at the current time, to cover your back if they try to claim against you at a later date.
We got hit from behind in October last year, the car just drove off.0
