Headphones

I'd like to get some noise cancelling, over ear headphones. I tried some Dr Dre Beats ones in Currys the other day and the sound was fab. I'm not paying the extra for the 'street cred' though as I'm in my 40's and too old for all that.

Apart from Bose, are there any comparable ones? I use Sennheiser in ear ones atm and also like Klipsch.

eta: I need something that can handle a lot of bass without distorting.

Do you definitely want "noise cancelling" ones?

How are you going to use them? At home or on your commute?

The Bose ones not only sound great but are the most comfortable you can get (obviously they are very expensive too!). The Dr Dre ones tend to be awful and well overpriced (you pay for the label).

I don't think the sound quality is very good with the Beats- they are so bass heavy they ruin the music! I'd suggest Sennheiser, they have a few types worth trying, the HD25 sounded good when I sampled them but they were not very well built- maybe have a look around the range and see if anything else works for you, I have heard many audiophiles rate Sennheiser above all other brands hands down so you can't go far wrong!

Another brand I tried in HMV were the TSK 800 which do fit quite snuggly and seem to have a decent sound, the build quality looked a great deal better when compares to the HD25's from Sennheiser.

If you check cnet they have quite a few headphones that have been trialled and rated on by experts and by members of the site, could be worth a read.
