Cont JSA runs out Feb.

Hi

I am actively seeking work and hope can find employment soon. My Cont JSA runs out in Feb. I currently also receive HB and CT benefit.

Am worried what will happen if I have not found work by Feb. I have no savings or any other income. Will I be able to continue claiming any benefit. Do I need to inform HB and CT office prior to cont JSA ending. Can I apply for any other benefit prior to Feb.

Cant afford to get into any arrears with rent or Ctax.

Any advice would be welcome. Thank you.

if you dont have a partner, you will just go onto income based JSA instead.
if you do have a partner, you joint household income will be used to work out entitlement.

if you are single, the transfer from one to the other should be seamless, and housing and council tax benefit should continue as it does now

You should ensure that you made an underlying claim to Income based JSA initially, if you didn't then you'll need to complete a new claim form for that. They won't chase it up for you so make sure you find this out and if in doubt fill one out (JSA3 I think) before your JSA Cont runs out.

  • My partner has just recieved a letter saying that his NI JSA is about to run out. I told him to ring the number on the letter to ask how he would transfer to Income JSA and the very nice lady on the phone sent him some forms to fill out which he posted back straight away. In the letter it doesnt tell you how to switch over or what to do next, so when you recieve the letter saying your NI JSA is ending soon, phone them and get the forms sorted, that way you should carry on recieving your money without a break.

Just to note that for income based JSA the household income is taken into account so if you are working it's unlikely he'll qualify for it although he will still have his NI credited.
