Dirty Cat!

Hi All, hope someone can help............
One of my 10 month old cats has come in this evening with almost half his body covered lightly in stuff - OH says it smells like 3-in1 oil, but it's definitely car/garden stuff.
Looks like he was tippy toeing along the edge of something & slipped! Like they do! His right legs & tummy fur are coated in this.
He's had a good clean himself, & I've just popped a little bit of WUL in some warm water & wiped him down & cleaned between his toes. The water was light brown when I threw it away.
Does anyone know if I should do anything else? Don't really want to fork out a fortune at the vet tomorrow - you just know the bill would be £1 under the insurance excess! :rotfl:
TIA.

personally i`d have another go at the cat with wul/warm water tomorrow morning so he has the rest of the day to dry off, maybe try brushing him as well to try and break the gunk up. i wouldn`t worry too much just try to get the worst off, cats hate being dirty so he`ll spruce himself up in no timeproper prior planning prevents !!!!!! poor performance!Only when the last tree has died and the last river been poisoned and the last fish been caught will we realise we cannot eat moneyquote from an american indian.0

Hi
When one of my cats got oil on her from going under a car the vet said to use baby shampo and warm water. But she was not happy and it took weeks for the scratches to heal so try to wear thick rubber gloves.

Hi,
Ive got 3 cats, a black one (never gets dirty got she's black)! a Norwegian Forest cat (long haired and black and white) cleans himself no matter what and...a pure white 10 month old long haired Maine Coon, who goes up the chimney, under cars..you name it she does it!!!
What Ive found is bathing her, I was told to fill the bath warmer than we would have ourselves as their body temperature is higher than ours they need it to be warmer and to talk in 'cat baby talk' constantly!
This has made bathing her relaxing for her and she will happily walk around the bath while im washing her now without scratching and clambering out.
For shampoo i got some special cat shampoo, but found this wouldn't remove the charcoal, in the end I used a baby soap (no scent etc) for the really stubborn bits. I kept topping up the water with hot water so it kept a high temperature and she was absolutely fine.
The minute it got to what i 'thought' was warm, she felt it was cold and wanted to get out. Think that's the trick!!

Glad to know I had the right idea!
Cuddlymarm - Felix wasn't TOO impressed with being swabbed down, but he put up with it for 10 minutes before deciding to do a runner! And no claws! Lucky me!
I'll see what he's like tomo night & maybe do a second wash.
Somewhere I read on-line said to try baby powder, then brush it out. Anyone tried this? Said it's one of the trade secrets for Show cats! Does that mean my old Tabby mog'd be OK with it? LOL!

i have used baby powder on a horse before so should be ok for your cat! tho he may look a bit of an odd colour for a while as its difficult to brush it all out!!Member 1145 Sealed Pot Challenge No4

if it's an oil based substance then you could use something like swarfega, unlike soap you won't need the hot water to break the oils down, but if you are going to use baby shampoo etc then if you have an enclosed shower get in there with him, I had to do this once when I cat was covered in coal0

yep, used this too on the white maine coon, it is used on show cats, works a treat, and she smells lovely, but dont think it tastes too nice when they wash themselves!!0 -

you aren`t far off the truth there! i was in the bath once when my cat teetered along the rim then fell in, it looked like edward scissor hands had been trying to bump me off :eek:proper prior planning prevents !!!!!! poor performance!Only when the last tree has died and the last river been poisoned and the last fish been caught will we realise we cannot eat moneyquote from an american indian.0 -
hehe, poor cat...remember the cat will try to wash him/her self so nothing toxic can be left on the fur.
Dilution with another, lighter oil can help break down very thick oil,but if it is only 3-in-1 then shampooo and set should do the trick.
I like the tip about the hot bath- our cat doesn't seem to wash herself very well compared to others- her feet stink and her chin fur has grit in it!- some days I'm tempted to give her a wee bath myself:DMember of the first Mortgage Free in 3 challenge, no.19
