    Hi Robert!
How do I find the thread for average consumption? We pay £39 for electricity and £47.50 for gas each month with Scottishpower. 4 bedrooms, old Victorian detached villa, gas central heating and cooking, no cavity walls ie "built on the hard", but almost all windows face south and attic is insulated. Is this too high, as all doorstep persuaders suggest?
    Thoughts much appreciated.

We've now chosen a supplier to replace Staywarm - we're switching to npower sign online, price freeze till 2006; projected savings over what Staywarm would have charged for the next 12 months = c. £175.

As said in my previous post, Staywarm will readily give you all the meter readings it holds; presumably other suppliers would also give you this info. if you ask.

    Roger56,
I suggest your example is atypical.

There is a thread on average consumption. From this thread(and others) it would appear that your consumption is about a half of others occupying smaller houses.

I also live in a 4 bed detached(with 2 other adults) and I pay £101 a month. £65 for gas and £36 for electricity. I have no doubt I could reduce this considerably,(I choose not to) and £80-90 might be achievable - but £30! no way.

According to EnergyWatch I fit into the low user category. See link

which also has a useful price comparison service. A .pdf with prices can also be downloaded.

When we moved into this smaller 2 bedroom house exactly one year ago, I spent time and effort trying to establish the "perfect" solution having come from sheltered housing where "it aint arf hot" all the time.

Staywarm seemed to be ideal. Gas & elect unlimited, provided you don't abuse the system.

Six months on, and I buy a holiday static caravan where we can exit to whenever we feel like it. However it greeves me to spend further cash on elect & gas whenever we're there. Plus recently I discovered a couple in similar situation, pay elect & gas by dierect debit for less than £30 a month and they're in credit, my payment to Staywarm ? £53.30 !

I rang staywarm and they said, you might as well revert to the normal method of payment. So, if I do, the search will be to find someone else.

I am sorry not to have been back since I posed my question...reason was that husband was in hospital having a second pypass op. He is now home and is doing well and I have time to write.

Barter, I will Ring Staywarm tomorrow about our usage. I think I already rang them and they said they could not give me our consumption figures...but it may have been Powergen I rang...so I will try again.

Our flat is a very warm one and we are not heavy users of energy. I have been a bit reluctant to change, in case it becomes like jumping out of the frying paqn etc.

I will read all the posts carefully and do more research and then we will need to make our minds up.

Thanks to you all once again.
