How much did you pay

  • We've got two friends doing ours - they are recent graduates, with degrees in photography and film production - so they're looking to build their portfolios, and we want inexpensive but good photography! We're paying them £400, and we'll get the video, and all our images on disk as hi-res JPEGs (we'll do the editing ourselves as we're both keen amateur photographers anyway - so we're not covering the costs of processing).

    tbh, this sounds quite steep.

They're friends, so presumably would be at the wedding anyway and may even bring a camera. They're not doing any of the real leg work (editing) and need to build a portfolio, so I'd have expected them to be quite happy to be allowed to do your wedding for a token payment at best.

(It's great, though, that they're allowing you access to all the JPEGS, no professional photographer would permit this).

I paid £2500 for our photographer, that was for his time and expertise, all photos edited on a copyright free disc and a huge beautiful leather bound album with 70 images.

It was a huge chunk of our budget, about a third of it, but well well worth it. After the wedding all I have are memories and photographs.

Personally I would pay as much as I could for the photographer that I thought had amazing photos.
Can't think of anything smart to put here...

We are paying £500 for two photographers for 4 hours and everything on disk.
  • we got our photographer for free :-) as he was a professional wedding photographer but had not done many weddings. He now does the entire day for £500 and a basic package for £300 his name is Adrian Callaghan, website is http://www.get-callaghan.com/photography/Welcome.html

His work was absolutely amazing and he covered every kind of shot, he did reportage and posed shots. I had created a folder over the year of any wedding shots i saw that i liked to show our photographer when we chose one and he did capture them all. we got over 500 pics and i created photo books myself online after as it is a lot cheaper and so much fun :-) he did give us all the images JPEG's and TIFFS but dont know if he does that now
  • We had three photographers.

    1. A 'professional' who offered 2 hrs free photography in return for use of your photos to advertise the company. This person was utter rubbish, I got a disc with about 20 photos and most were over exposed or blurry etc, only a few were any good. Soooo pleased I didn't just have this person as would of had no memories at all.

    2. A friend of my mother in law who asked if they could come along and photograph the wedding to gain experience. Got some fantastic shots, again we got a disc with all the photos on. They did some amazing edits of turning photos b/w but keeping key features in colour.

    3. A lady who was recommended to me from another photographer as she was after low key wedding experience. All she wanted was £30 for her travel expense. She was amazing, she did the whole day for me so was the only person who captured me getting ready. She gave me a disc with like 200 photos on it and asked me to choose 80 that she would edit.
