it appears that I had kinked the pipe at the back by pushing it back against the wall as the water tried to empty it was backing up and so wouldn't spin and was full of water. I've pulled it forwards a bit and pulled the kink out and it is working fine.

one thing I will say though is that the lady in the washing machine shop (she's been doing this for 40 years now so I do trust her advice) is that washing liquid is the worst thing ever for your washing machines and not to use it EVER. She said that powder is best option for keeping your machine in good order.

Anyway, hope everyone is ok. Frugal hugs to those who need them x

Errr doesn't powder turn to liquid once water is added lol

I heard not to put anything in the drawer, but in directly with the clothes, as it all deposits in the pipes.

I haven't. I inherited and I think it's been stood somewhere for a long time as it was really dirty. I've cleaned it of sludge and fluff and bits of cotton for most of the areas. I'll have to bits at the weekend and oil it too, failing that there is a sewing machine repair place in the next town which also do tutorials so it might be worth having a go with that to.

Good luck with your washer too.

mines was in a cupboard for over 20 years, thik 24 or 26.. gave it to my friend who gave it to her mum who is a machinist with playtex, who said it just needed a good oiling... and to do regualarly until it stops being soo stiff.

(p.s. well done on fixing teh washing machine!)

    Frugal weekend plans:
    1. Food plan and shop.
    2. Take advantage of the nice weather and get washing out on the line rather than being tumble dried. One washing out this afternoon, if still nice tomorrow I am going to strip the beds.
    3. Finish making HM napkins - aiming to set up dinner table nicely to discourage my usual TV dinners routine!!
    4. Plan next months finances and budget.
    5. Look ahead to upcoming birthdays and double check present drawer to se what I have got/see what I need to buy.
    6. Walking & picnic on Sunday as our day out.

Just home from work and OH still in bed (he has been night shift). He wasn't feeling too well this morning when he got home so I will see how he is feeling when he gets up. No 6 may have to be postponed if he is still feeling poorly.
  • Wow! What a busy lot you all have been. I haven't posted for awhile as have a lovely new man in my life and frugalling has gone completely out of the window (we live 150 miles apart!).
However, have found that really he is a frugaller as well - so we are both rising to the challenge of not only living a much simpler lifestyle but trying to do our bit for eco friendly living.

Have printed off the Free Pass ticket on the National Trust website so am cycling(!) the twelve miles to look around Scotney Castle later.

Have planned menus for next week based on box from Abel and Cole, but will investigate local firm who deliver very local produce cheaper than A&C but not always organic.

Trying to spend minimum on pressies this year so have just finished making 'Babysitting and Make-a-Meal' voucher for friend and cut out fabric to make some bunting and cot cover for new baby expected soon.

I received two free chocolates from Ocean chocolates which I was going to put into a pampering basket for another friend, but I've just eaten them!:o

Happy frugalling everyone on this lovely sunny day.

  • Aww congrats on the new man skintwelly, it's amazing when you can find someone you have loads in common with, shame he lives so far away (for now!) xx

Have been busy entering loads of competions, and have got my first campaign on bzzagent, free coffee to trial, Oh and i cashed in a £10 mysurveypanel voucher for a free birthday treat to myself (wooden salad bowl and survers ) and a very cute owl necklace..total cost 60p lol.

Been in the garden today and cut down looads of my rose tree (definatly too big to be called a bush) needed doing as 1) it is mostly dead i was saddened to see and 2) i need the space for my chicken coop and run. Have laid about 2/3 of the foundations and filled it with some old rubble we had laing around . Oh mum has found me a big roll of chicken wire and im reusing the old fence posts and house doors, so im hoping it will cost very little to make.

Have signed up for live below the poverty where you live on £1 a day (food only) im hoping it not of a challenge for me lol as theres 5 in our family (2 adults and 3 children) (plus i eat loads of reduced and apporved food stuff)

Tonights tea was a very deep filled chicken and veg pie £3 down to £1 , instant mash (my children prefer it to my fresh made the traitors!) 20p and a tin of baked beans 25p so £1.45 for 5 of us.

Got £40 in birthday money, have decided to invest it and put it towards a national trust voucher as its £75 for a family of our size at the mo..least i think i will lol although i do really want to go to kew gardens in the summer with the children (free) and my mother ..actually i could do that for her birthday and it whould be cheap and a treat/day out!

Got the free 3 month Art pass , which is fab as our local dockside/maritime museum is right on our door step and with this card free!

Dont forget its soon that daily mail has its free family and friends card about may time x

have a great week all xx

I have now started my new job and my salary has gone up slightly but I will continue to live as frugal as I can.

I am saving £20 a month in reduced travel costs compared to my previous job and have decided to save that money every month into pot for a special treat.

This year we are growing 10 strawberry plants in our conservatory and they are doing really well. We are doing the same with our various herbs. The seeds planted for peppers and tomatoes are now starting to grow as well.

OH has shredded loads of paperwork that we will make into paper logs to be burnt up when the autumn starts to delay switching on the heating.

Good luck to you all with this frugal challenge.
No toiletries challenge, started 18/1/2010 - Putting £1 in my savings jar for every item that I use up. Pot 1 to 4 = £261. Pot 5=£23
    Boots points:£39.21. Extra money in 2012:£674.59. In 2013 £603.48. 2014: £85. 2015: £0 :j
