Did you just do the wall, or the floor and ceiling too?

Done the walls and the builders put what they called 'sound bars' under the skirting

That's why soundproofing was so important to me. My neighbours are an elderly couple.
Tell the truth, you are just being neighbourly because you are such a noisey girl!!

I've just had my 1930's semi soundproofed. The builders said the noise through the party wall is common.

I've lost 6 inches off each wall but it's been effective enough for the quiet neighbours. If I had the neighbours I did at my old house (stupidly noisey with booming music and screaming) I don't think it would've touched it tbh

Can i ask roughly how much it cost?

I want to do the same in my living room, though more so i can turn my music up a little louder than because the neighbours annoy me,

    Ours is a 1950s semi.

The other thread suggested it was important for another reason. :rotfl::rotfl:.

  • In answer to original question I think it is very common going by number of threads about sound related issues you read on here.

Only real certain solution to avoid neighbour "everyday type" noise is detached I am afraid. My first house was a semi and it used to drive me nuts being able to hear everything through the walls such as coughing, toilet flushing etc
Was happy to compromise with OH on moving last time on many things but detached was not one of them however nice the house!

Sound proofing can help but can be expensive. Maybe a "white noise" machine for sleeping will help?

A big issue is that the 3-bed semis down our road have the bedrooms on the party wall side, which means that your bedroom is 'joined' to your neighbour's bedroom. That's a real disaster IMO. The bedrooms should be on the outside wall side. I think that would cut a lot of the noise down.
