Power saver for us, or pound maker for them?

This little gadget has been mentioned in a chatroom. Does anyone know anything about it? is thetechnical idea behind it kosher, or is it a shocking waste of money?

  • Looks like nonsense to me. If it stores electricity in capacitors, i'd expect the device to be around the same size as a UPS device. UPS is designed to store and use power during complete outtages - but usually only to the tune of giving enough time to do evasive shutdown work.

Plus i'd expect that your electric devices only pull the juice they require, so why would more flow through than is needed?

Who knows for sure tho. I'd have thought if it were true, it would be better known too.

EDIT... LOL.... I just got the 'shocking waste of money' joke. Or wasnt it intentional? :P

Works like a bath-plug and stops the leccie dripping out of sockets. Wouldn't work here as we're the right way up...

MSE tip - always put a bucket under a light fitting when changing bulbs (AND DON'T USE A METAL BUCKET!)

Thats some good advice right there!

Sounds like complete nonsense to me. Storing reactive power???? Considering it's the imaginary component of the total complex power I'd like to see how they even measure the "stored" reactive power considering it isn't even mathematically real power. I'd certainly love to open one up to see what's inside. Probably just a direct feedthrough. If it does save you money on the bills then it's by some means that they haven't explained properly. Always be suspicious of anything where they deliberately try to overcomplicate the explanation. If they are trying to explain how it works to the layperson (their potential customers) why are they using terms only normally used at minimum of degree level electrical engineering? Most genuine things they actually try to simplify the explanation so anyone can understand and give credibility to the thing they are selling.

  • Nah, I reckon it's Fairy powered. Super conductive magic fairy dust is what locks in the power....

Why have they not got any genuine contact details? It's all done through a third party. No company registration, no patent numbers, nothing.

The POWER SAVER Box when plugged on your outlet captures that
reactive power (Non-working power) that you would otherwise lose and
pay for, and stores it in the units capacitor banks, thus now allowing your
inductive motor load to push in and pull from the Power Saver unit using
the stored power, instead of asking for more from the utility. This decreases
your demand from the utility, thus decreasing your Kwh usage and lowering
    your bill each month.

I think its supposed to correct for power factor, I know this is used in industry to correct for inductive or capacitive loads but I doubt its of much use in a domestic situation. I guess its a bit like the Savaplug for fridges, but I'm probably wrong.

    Heres the science bit
