  • The Aldi posh gin, called something 1593 is about a tenner for a 50 Cl bottle and is excellent - looks nice as well if its for a present.

Their premium gin - not tried the standard one yet, the rum is tolerable in a mojito and the faux archers is ok for cocktails

Bought a bottle of Lidl's Armilar amaretto for £9.99 last night. It's (as above ) awfully sweet and I have a sweet tooth. Any suggestions for a mixer to reduce the sweetness?
  • Aldi's Cocobay White Rum is similar to malibu but not as syrupy more like a rum. Tastes good with ginger beer or other mixers £4.99
Aldi's take on Peach Schnappes I don't personally like.
Love Aldi's Irish Cream at £3.99
Love Aldi's Dark Rum at approx £9 per bottle
Love Lidl's Irish Cream at £3.99 per bottle.
Lidl's Dark Rum is also good at approx. £9 per bottle.

Lidl's Dark Rum is also good at approx. £9 per bottle.

I agree the Aldi dark rum is extremely good considering how cheap it is but I have always thought the Lidl rum tastes like a very average cheap rum.

I bought Aldi Amaretto yesterday for £4.99 (50cl)

I've had non-brand Amaretto before and it's been too sweet and not almondy enough, but this is excellent for the money.

I've not had Disaronno for a while, but the Aldi stuff is certainly good enough for a taste-off.

Looking to stock up on spirits for Christmas. Any to recommend, any to avoid.
I have tried the Aldi Baileys (Ballycastle or something like that) and it was very nice indeed!

We tried Lidl Champagne at about £12.99 - don't bother it is not nice, I'd rather have a good Cava or a known name Champagne.

We recently bought Aldi's Glen Marnoch LT Edition 12 year old Single Malt Scotch Whisky, tastes cheap. Many better whiskies out there and at this time of year offer prices make them a far better buy than this.

Aldi`s whisky at £10.32 is tasteless: avoid.
Lidl`s whisky at £10.99 is fine but too expensive.
Tesco and Asda cheepo whisky is fine at £10.32

  • Mrs Villa always buys Aldi London Dry Gin preffering it to some well known brands, over Christmas is the only time they seem to sell it in 1 litre bottles at £12.99, so we have already stocked up.
