The Amaretto is worth a try.
We normally buy abroad for Son as almost half UK price, but managed to get the "real stuff" this year for his Xmas hamper.

I totally agree with you about the Ballycastle.., enabled us to enjoy it more than just at Christmas.
I like the Ports as well (from Aldi) but don't get them very often because they really can make u tipsy in short order lol.0 -
Lidl's cheap Baileys (£4) is brilliant, and I prefer it to the real thing now. They do a Western Gold (Jack Daniels) bourbon which is OK, but you couldn't do a session drink on it without having a bad hangover and dodgy belly the next day!
Their beer, Perlenberg, is utterly lovely. No hangover, brewed under German purity laws. Some days, it's just not worth chewing through the leather straps....

Thanks might have to get some.
didn't see the amaretto priced up as £8.99 but could have asked the till assistant to check.0 -
I find the lidl amaretto a little sweet for my taste (I really don't have a sweet tooth though) so I make my own.
Vodka - if the quality is not good enough to drink it as is then don't use it. Alcohol dilution calculator here if you need to drop the alcohol content.

Flavouring - I favour the prestige brand ones they are the best quality I have tried & their range covers nearly any drink you can think of.

Sugar to taste - don't follow instructions on the flavouring bottle, taste before adding sugar & use your own judgement I generally use half the recommended amount at the most if I use any at all.
A little bit of glycerin will make it smoother if using cheap vodka but to be honest anything short of running it through an activated carbon filter will not make that much difference to the taste of low quality vodka.0 -
Aldi Port is excellent, but for spirits I prefer to wait until the supermarkets have brands on offer.
Famous Grouse has been £14-15 a litre in a couple of supermarkets over the last few weeks and Bombay Sapphire has also been on offer and there's always a few malt whiskies to consider. All are better than budget supermarket lines.
Finding offers on good cognac is more difficult.0 -
Not a typical winter drink but Aldi Austins is a very good Pimms copy at £6 for a .7l bottle.0
