I tried some free nav apps before buying the Tomtom app (i cant see if Navfree was one of them) and none of them seemed to be as competent than my previous tomtom. The tomtom app is just like a tomtom device, I trusted it (and was using it for work)

I was nearly there in purchasing the App and camera App (not sure I would require the HD traffic in Wales! BUT ... there are a number of poor opinions on the App store itself. Most are concerned with the loss of Google maps/places which would also be the case with a new stand alone device.

Does this mean any new map downloads to my ancient tomtom 910 would not have the same look to them ? Or even are they still updated !??

If you do not use poi aka traffic cameras, I would recommend Waze.

The best thing ever is free live traffic and re-routing which is fantastic.

Good points are that it recognises one way streets, roads that cannot be crossed due to barriers and funny junctions. Found that navfree has difficulty in these and in London some of the routes do not work because of these.

The worst is no poi, built in cams are unreliable and the warning distance is too short even if travelling far below the speed. Often it is very chatty and a bit too informative, like asking if you are stuck in traffic while stopped at a traffic light.
