Redundant Ryanair Card - unloading!

Hi all,

As a frequent flyer I've always tried to keep a step ahead of the travelling circus of the sky that is Ryanair with their arrogant card charges but am now stuck with money on my cash passport card as they've now declared that it too incurs a fee.

There is no point me topping it up again (minimum top-up of £150) so would just like to withdraw the money - just under £20 left on it.

I don't recall being given a pin for it and i can't see where I can request a new one on the cash passport site. I think the easiest way would be to buy something online for that value. Has anyone done this before? Says on the site there is a 50p charge, but not sure if shops and merchants applies to online

Any suggestions always appreciated!

Well just buy something for 50p less than the amount you have.
  • Is emptying the cardcash the solution that costs only 50p?

There is a clause whereby you get charged £2.50 for not using the card for 6 months. The question is, how/where from could they collect any money from us?

Cancelling the card is reputed to cost £6.00.

Has anyone got rid of their cashcard and which method did you use?

They take it from the money on the card... If there is no money then while technically they may reserve the right to bill you for it, I highly doubt they will. You're never charged for closing a card though - only for withdrawing money from it.

How do you close a card? Do you first have to "unload" it? How do you unload it without paying a fee for withdrawing money?

If you ask to transfer the balance to a bank account, it costs £6.

To pay for goods, it costs 50p per transaction.

To withdraw money from an ATM, it costs £2.

To pay for a Ryanair fare, it costs nothing but it will never be the exact amount you have got left on the card.

    Help!

Section 7.2 of the Ts & Cs of the Ryanair Cash Passport card implies that you will not be charged a cashout fee if you wait until the card expires and redeem your funds within twelve months of the expiry date:

"A cashout fee may be charged for redeeming unspent funds on the Card through Card Services if: (i) you redeem unspent funds on the Card before the Termination Date ...; or (ii) you redeem unspent funds on the Card after a period of twelve (12) months from the Termination Date."

But the card is still valid for over 2 years and if the card is unused for 6 months, you get charged £2.50.

So, if you use it you are charged, if you don't, you are charged too. Diabolical, we should have known, where is that icon where you bang your head against a wall?

Spend your total balance in one transaction and see if Raphael claim their 50p.

I don't see how that has anything to do with what I said... But yes, spending it was the logical solution to this - though I would assume they would reject the purchase if there wasn't enough to pay for the fee.
