Never heard of a foreign draft?
Overseas Posting?- Take it, as there wont be many around unless your part of NATO in the future.
There will probably be a facebook "Wag's" group where your going, so take a peek..
Worst case, you can always move back to the UK & your partner can commute every other week/month etc..0 -
Hi CrazyAngel,
You've got to grab this fantastic opportunity with both hands, how manyother people do you know who've had the chance to live in Europe with an all expensespaid move and accommodation provided for them?
As mentioned there will probably be a 'facetube' page where you can get moreinformation from people living there already.
You may or may not get a job while you're out there but don't let thatinfluence you too much. You're in the enviable position of not having kids soyou can make the most of all the things on offer whilst living there - traveletc. From personal experience the Dutch are really friendly people and themajority of them speak excellent English too.
Having lived in Germany with a wife and no kids for a number of years, I canonly say that we have done so many things that we could have never done in theUK it's unbelievable. At the end of the day what have you got to loose - if youcan't settle you can always go back saying you've tried.

Hi, I lived in AFCENT in Brunnsum for 3 years. I actually met and married my husband there as we were both serving soldiers.
Depending on the accommodation, you may live in hirings rather than MOD owned houses as at the time there were not any there. Your husband would receive a married accompanied allowance and the hiring would be subsidized by the MOD purse.
I loved living in the Netherlands but some items were more expensive at the time, it now might be different. I used to travel over the border to Germany to fill up and buy food, not that it was much more expensive but you do get extra allowances to help compensate with costs.
As far as work goes, you may, depending on your area of work find a job, but the Netherlands has suffered just as much unemployment as the UK. They speak very good English and are extremely friendly. I lived there between 1994 to 1997, and then went to Germany and from there Northern Ireland.
Hope this helps.Mortgage: Aug 12 £114,984.74 - Jun 14 £94000.00 = Total Payments £20984.74
