TV stopped working. Fuses ok, plug socket ok, what could it be?

Hey Hey :D

Our TV stopped working yesterday (CRT, not LCD/Plasma). It was switched off, then a few mins later tried to switch it back on and nothing.

Assumed it was a fuse, changed plug fuse, still nothing. Checked wall sockets were operating. Sky box and DVD still working fine (though not much use without a tv!)

Before we end up buying another new one (this one we have only had a few months albeit second hand!) does anyone have an idea of what may have gone wrong? Perhaps a second fuse inside? :wall:

Crabster :(

Just a guess but have you managed to try another socket, use an extension cable to connect to another socket

  • You change the fuse INSIDE the TV already? More likely to be that one if it's totally dead.

Inside the TV huh? I've changed the fuse in the plug and I've already made sure the wall socket works. Where would the fuse be located inside the TV, is it risky at all? :o
  • I know little about TVs but enough about electronics to know there is usually a fuse inside the device as well. I also know that you must be VERY careful when opening up a TV because they hold an immense charge for a long time after switching off.

Perhaps best if you get a local repairman to take a look instead.

I think that's probably best - I've found a £55 - 28" widescreen for pickup just 40 miles away in birmingham in case this goes belly up. Shame it's only about 4 years old :(
  • Hell - get someone to check it out. If it IS a fuse, it'll be the first thing a repairman will check (and £1.50 for a fuse, it's worthwhile doing)

Good luck with that tho m8. (New TVs are cool anyway! ;) )
