  • Thanks Parking_question_chap, I've sent her an email today instructing her to by no means pay them and not dock any money from my payslip. I will be checking my January payslip to see if she has followed my instructions.
I have instructed her to pass my details on so that they contact me directly if needs be, and any further contact will have nothing to do with my employers.
Ridiculous really, the entire fleet department seems to be sticking their noses in to point fingers at me even though I've pointed out legalities of these fake "notices" being unenforceable. Absolute rubbish!

What did they say about the Fleet News article which explains the scam to their industry? And what about the BVRLA link I gave above which explains what Fleets are advised to do, by their Trade Body, since the change in the law (simply pass on the driver's details then the Fleet has ZERO liability ever after).
PRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).

  • She ignored it! She said she still believed it was a grey area but as the company are still the registered keepers of the vehicle, they have the right to make sure that the company won't get financially or legally implicated by something I've done. So that's why she's sticking her beak in and ignoring what I'm saying. Even after advising her that it's a fake ticket, even telling her to pass the information on to other company drivers to warn them not to pay any of these parking charge notices (which she refused to do), she's still worried that the company will get bombarded the threatened by Parking Eye. I told her to pass my details on so let's see how good Parking Eye's admin chain is, they should now be sending any of these so called threats to me now, not my employers.

It is not worth putting your employment at risk over this issue. As the car is leased, it is usual for the leasing co to bill the hirer (your employer). They are simply recovering this from you. Irrespective of your justification, if they pay and you don't - you're the bad guy in his - and it can easily spiral out of control. (Through no fault of your own).

With your own vehicle you have the luxury of deciding your course of action and be rewards this brings. Hired or rented users usually do not, and the involvement of additional third parties can have unintended consequences.

More evidence to add to my opinion that HR is the most useless department in any company. The number of times I have been messed around until I stuck my employment contract/company handbook under their noses, only to have them climb down...

HR are there to protect the company, NOT the employee. Remember that, and it'll set you in the right frame of mind for any encounters with them.
