Returning item after 28 days

Options
I wasn't sure where to post this, so feel free to move it if it's in the wrong place.

I have bought an item from Debenhams but now realise it is not the right item for it's intended purpose. However, more than 28 days have passed since buying the item. My question is, could I return it and get store credit? The item has all it's tags/original packaging.

Also, the item is only sold in the bigger stores, would I be able to return it to my local store?

Thanks for any advice given

The garment would be exchange only, with in the whole of Debenhams (not just that brand). I know in our store we don't give store credit, but may vary from store to store.

If it is from a consession you can only return if that consession is in the store you are returning to.

After 28 days you will only get a credit voucher and if the item is now in the sale you will only be entitiled to the current selling price. sorry for that bad news

To be honest, i'd play dumb and say that you bought it from another store last week and you have misplaced the receipt. And now wish to exchange it for a credit voucher.

Most retailers are happy to take items back that are in the same condition as when sold provided the money stays in their till.

If, as nikkif, stated they don't offer a credit note but an item exchange then this is just as good as a credit note. If theres nothing you wish to exchange it for then ask if there is anything that can be done.

Thanks for all the advice. I do have the receipt, but like I said it is over the time limit by a little way. I would be happy with a credit note to be honest. I might go and try it and see what happens. Or call debenhams beforehand and ask what they can do. Does anyone have the number?

I think it will probably be on the reciept, if not tr their store locator: http://www.debenhamsweddings.com/site_services/store_locator.jsp?FOLDER%3C%3Efolder_id=7809221&bmUID=1177400598648

If it's not too long over the 28 days, they might honour it, some places will. You could always give a reason as to why you couldn't get there sooner?

It is quite a bit longer (more like 2 months). I'll give them a call and see what they say.

I do actually remember doing this with an item before, and got a credit note but this item is over £200, so I'm not sure if they would still do it. WOrth giving it a go I guess
