I have been off work for six weeks with severe depression (to the point where i considered taking my life on several occassions).
I have been visited by my HR dept this morning and been told to accept 3 months compensation or they could terminate my contract and I would walk away with nothing.
I have started making calls to companies already to postpone payments and lower my bills. Some like Aviva have been great and very supportive, others have been a complete nightmare such as Direct Line. They are telling me that even if i take my policy down to third party (previously fully comp) my payments will be higher than they are at present.
Cant wait to find a new job and put this behind me.

Good luck.
It is a bit if perverse world where 3rd party can actually be more expensive that fully comp!Thinking critically since 1996....0 -
there are a few articles saying that the bigger companies put the premium up 400% because you are more of a risk for making fraudulent claims.0

How long have you worked for your current employer as a permanent employee?
If it's for less than two years, they can terminate your employment without reason, subject to providing you with notice or pay in lieu of notice (although exclusions to apply for sackable offences).
If you have worked for them for more than two years then you will be able to challenge their decision.0 -

There was also something about this on one of the money TV shows last week that I happened to catch.
I assume it's because of some matrix of risks and so-on.0 -
I only started the job in March, so I have very little employment rights. I moved half the way accross the country aswell.0

It is only two years if smeone began work after 6th April 2012. For everyone else it is still one year. But right now there is nothing to challenge. They have not dismissed - the OP has, or is about to, resign.
OP - why are you agreeing to this???0 -

OK, that's one explanation for why you are agreeing. Next question - have you had depression before, and if so, does your employer know about it? And agree nothing yet.0 -
This is the first time I have suffered depression. I have asked for a week to think things over and seek legal advice.0

What would be your normal notice period in this job?
Are you entitled to company sick pay, and if so, what is it?
They didn't put the offer in writing - did they?0 -
Unfortunately since the end of October I have used up my sick pay entitlement. I will be on Sep as of the 21st.
The offer is basically to go now with 3 months pay and no fuss and if I don't accept that they will basically give me a months money and tell me to go immediately.
The depression was caused by my senior manager and the company believe it would be impossible for me to return to work, and they are not willing to take action against my manager.
I do not have anything in writing yet.
