I'm trying so hard to be thrifty, but it doesn't come naturally. You lot are an inspiration!

We try to stick to a big shop each month (online or instore) then just buy bread, milk and fresh veg etc when we need it.0

Online
- Once a week both Ocado and Abel & Cole
- Every month or so other places eg French Click, Amazon, Fortnum & Mason, Sparks Yard, Shorters Club, Selfridges, The Stateside Candy Co, South African Foods, Foodari, Approved Food, Spices of India, Anglo-Australian Trading etc
Instore- Every 2-3 weeks Waitrose & Sainsbury's in one afternoon with mother for YS cheese (mostly go cos she wants to)
- Monthly OH picks up kitchen towel 99p Stores when running errands eg dry cleaning
That may look complicated but really it's simple. Shopping list on fridge door has to be completed by set time Fri for Ocado and set time Saturday for Abel & Cole and OH knows if it isn't then he has to schlep to supermarkets himself and risk going without.
During week I start shop and save. When I'm in Sainsbos and Waitrose with my mother if they have something in store I have on list cheaper or same price I buy it andcancel from order. I pick up YS cheese if I find it to stash in freezer for OH.
Orders from other places are mosty for things I can't get in UK supermarkets eg Jungle Oats porridge oats, Hershey's unsweetened cocoa powder, Arm & Hammer washing soda, William Saurin cassoulet OR stuff bought in bulk wholesale eg soap, antiperspirant deodorant, loo rolls, water OR great bargains OR treats
OH picks up little bits so he may go in Lidl for organic Heirloom tomatoes after going to 99p Stores for kitchen rolls once a month.0 -
I buy on average at least 5 times per week and grab as many reductions as possible!! Well, I have settled down a little of late, but I have access to the BIG 4 and almost on my doorstep and passing most of the time.
I'm thinking of reducing my shopping visits next year, but some great bargains can be had which you wouldn't get with an online shop. Coupons have advantages shopping in store also.
Not suitable for all obviously, but savings can be massive - 70%+ off easily.

Now I'm retired I shop nearly every weekday but I avoid the weekends - so crowded. Agree with Lynsey about reductions, I always feel cheerful when I've got a bargain.0

This - I don't drive and we live in the sticks so don't have the luxury of shopping as and when, so I meal plan for the month and then OH (who does drive) picks up any chilled or fresh items we may need on his way home from work. It's not often he needs to do that though as I freeze enough milk for a fortnight twice a month and I always double cook if I can so that I can freeze half. We have a fruit and veg van and a butchers van that comes round once a week so I use those too."A cat can have kittens in the oven, but that don't make them biscuits." - Mary Cooper

I shop everyday, grab the 10/20p bargains each night then I vacuum pack them (meat ect)I managed to buy heaps of pedigree chum in asda today reduced to 20p a tin(dated 2015)no idea why it was reduced.on the odd night when there isn't much it doesn't matter because the freezer is full.i also buy reduced bits for 3 neighbours who can't go out at night.i need my bargain fix.0

2/3 times a week. I avoid Saturdays if I can possibly avoid it. I can't stand the crowds. All the baying kids and dopey people who stop to chat in the middle of the aisles. If I have to shop on a weekend, I do it on a Sunday morning, pretty much as soon as it opens.
I always check the reduced section, even if I'm only popping in for a pint of milk. 7/10 times the YS section is utter dross in my store, just old ladies picking over odd slices of meat from the deli counters. However, it occasionally has some real gems. So it's worth a look, just in case.Because it's fun to have money!

Once a week, problem I find with shopping more often, especially without a list, is that I always see something that looks nice. Unfortunately supermarkets move item locations around so there is always something that you need even if you don't.0

Shop once a week. Try to go mid week but depends on work. I tend to spend the majority of my budget in Lidl (80%) with 20% spent in Tesco for things we can't get at Lidl.
Avoiding a top up shop at the weekend saves us about £80-100 a month so we try and steer clear.

As little as possible - I wait until the fridge is completely empty of food before venturing out, otherwise I would just end up wasting it (esp salad -buying it always seems like a good idea, but I never really fancy eating it). Works out at around once every 10 days, plus fruit from the stall.Value-for-money-for-me-puhleeze!
