Wheel cleaned without permission

A bit of a strange one that i have never seen pop up on the forum before, so thought i would see what opinion is.
My next door neighbour went shopping at the weekend at the local supermarket. When he came out there was a guy stood by the car offering an alloy wheel cleaning service, however he had already cleaned one of the wheels as a courtesy to show how good the service was. He proceeded to offer to do the other 3 for just £20 per wheel.
My neighbour doesn't care too much about his car and therefore doesnt mind his wheels aren't shiny, however now he has one incredibly bright wheel and 3 dark, brake dust covered wheels and it looks ridiculous. Therefore he feels obliged to have the other 3 done (i suspect this is the cleaners sales ploy).
What do you think his rights are? Should the cleaner do the other for 3 for free seeing as it would not be possible to put him back in the position he was previously (i.e. 4 evenly dirty wheels)?

I would check whether this guy was authorised by the supermarket.0

It sounds fairly similar to the "graffiti" artists and the marketeers who use pressure washers to create their art/ marketing in dirty walls/ pavements but of cause all they've actually done is cleaned areas not actually caused any damage.
Certainly in the ones that made the press for that the councils tried to prosecute but failed.
The challenge is that they havent actually done any damage or anything bad to the vehicle. Within a week or two the issue will naturally resolve itself as the cleaned wheel gets dirty again.
I suspect Trading Standard wouldnt approve of it but I doubt the chap is going to be the sort that Trading Standards can actually do much about.0 -
Wash half his face with your tonic water !Be happy...;)0

Well if they do not care. Then where is the issue?
Just make another 3 trips to the supermarket and get all 4 done for free :rotfl:
TBH. I would have just said thanks and No thanks....
But perhaps a word with supermarket security about vandalisation of cars in the car park. Or the franchise company that they guy works for on his slaes methods.Never ASSUME anything its makes a>>> A55 of U & ME <<<0 -
That made me laugh a little bit - sorry

It's a tactic that works on people's conscious - I bet your mate didn't really care about having one shiny wheel, but somewhere inside him felt he didn't want to let the guy down.
I'd have had a right row with him, and if he's affiliated to the supermarket, I'd be making sure I had a whinge. I too don't care much about the cleanliness of my wheels, but I hate people presuming they can touch my property.
P.S - I like the thought of him making it dirty again, so it exactly matched the other dirty wheels

Offer the bloke £15 for the other 3 - as you only need 3/4 done?0

Go back to the supermarket on 4 consecutive days and hopefully they will do a different wheel each timeThis is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0
