ESA medical- How long to hear back

Hi

I know it has probably been asked before but i was wondering if anyone knew how long it takes to hear back from a ESA medical as i have mine today.

I have had one before but i cannot remember how long it took to hear back from it.

Thanks in advance

  • Took 2 weeks for mine back in July. But it can be any amount of time. And at this time year I expect you should add at least another week onto that minimum. Others will have had a longer wait I am sure.
Good luck with it today. Concentrate on those ESA descriptors and how you meet them and all should be fine.

If you phone the DWP in a few days you can ask for the report (I *think* it's called ESA85) to be sent to you. With seasonal post delays may be on the drag to arrive. The report usually gives an indication on whether you will be approved or declined for ESA.
  • The report is called an ESA85. The ESA50 if the form you fill in prior to a medical. If you don't have a medical it's an ESA85A.

In my partners experience she noticed the benefits to have been stopped "due to a change of circumstances" BEFORE they bothered to inform her in writing leaving near a weeks overlap of no money and having to run round sorting things instead of giving notice of a decision coming up based on benefits being payed in arrears.

That took several weeks from the spring. Which is not just the only thing you will have to wait for. As assuming you will be in the growing number percentage wise that will "fail" the medical then it's the appeal waiting time that really comes into play. As funny enough I'm on here looking for advice for my partners failed appeal against a medical decision to go against her and that appeal against the medical decision has just took 6 months to come through today!.
  • Thanks guys for the replies

Well i went to my medical and got there to be told to go home as i am a fire hazard as they are on the second floor and i am on crutches so i now have to wait for the new year for a home visit instead.
I am just hoping my benefit does not get affected as im due to be reviewed on the 29th of this month.
Gonna be a worrying xmas lol

It really pain in the butt to phone up DWP and ask for ESA85 to be sent in the post, why can't they do it automatically. Stupid fool DWP.
  • Oh dear me.... not another cancelled medical.

As above... focus on the descriptors... if you can get any supporting medical evidence that descriptors apply then give it to the HCP on the day of your home based medical and perhaps send a copy to ATOS ASAP.

After the medical..perhaps a day or two later... as above... contact the DWP.. number at top of DWP ESA letters... and request copy of the ESA85 ATOS medical report. Return here for advice on the contents if they are not self explanatory... and be aware that report is likely... very likely... to effectively form the basis of the DWP's decision that could take many weeks to be administratively made after that medical.
