the bumper is badly scrapped and the rear quater panel at the arch has dented. as shes only worked there for a year we're abit concerned about the excess. she hasnt no paperwork in the house regarding it.

shes goin to inform work in the morn but just wondered what the usual dance is?

Mine's this year's model and the excess is £200 I think but it probably depends on who they use for their insurance.

usually its in the employee's handbook about company vehicle and excess etc.

perhaps your wife could notify that there has been a incident to work but say she would rather pay for it to be done somewhere than go through company insurance.
  • Quite often its the company that pays the excess.

When I had a company car we didn't have to pay excess. Presumably the company paid it.

Like your "my wife" story. ;)

I have worked for three companies with completely different arrangements for fault accidents. The current one has £600 excess irrelevant of age or driving experience which is pretty tough when you have 25 years plus experience and can get fully comp insurance for less than the excess...I have a local body shop who do a great job when the car is due to go back sorting out the stone chips etc might be worth having a look around before fessing up.

    Tax deductible for the company.
    Would be an unlawful deduction.
    Be happy...;)
  • Last place I worked where I considered getting a company car it depended on if the accident happened on a business journey or private. For business the company paid it, for private it was around £500 and payable by the employee

Can you expand on your point - genuine interest on my part. Whilst I take the cash allowance plenty of colleagues have had to pay the £500 excess and I know plenty of other companies where the excess is payable by the employee.

Exactly what law does it break?
