    Wow that's awkward.

About a month ago I was on my way home from work and popped into Tesco for a few bits. I was wearing a pair of brand new black knee high boots.

The Tesco cashier said she loved my boots and asked where I got them. Flattered, I told her. Then she said "thanks very much, that's great - it's just soooo difficult to get nice boots for fat calves"!!

:rotfl:, did you smile and say you assumed she meant her own ;)

Very happily married on 10th April 2013 :D

  • We had bag packers in this weekend and when mine commented on the gents big fat-balls ( for the birds)I of course replied that's why men walk the way they do.
(that's when I lost it and woke everyone up with my dirty laugh)
Sorry sir I hope you weren't offended - I'll get my coat.

I don't mind general chat - but do find it very rude when they start to comment on my shopping.

What I buy is none of their business and I really don't care for their opinion on it.

I am more than happy to smile and say hello but I don't need to know any personal details and nor do I want to give any.

You may not but some people do, i have a lady that always comes to me for her shopping, as through general chit chat i found out she has a heart condition so she comes to me if her husband is not with her, as she knows i will allow her to go sit down while i put her shopping through the till and pack it all for her.

I can understand why some people would prefer an impersonal shopping trip but others don't, im naturally chatty and prefer to chat to my customers.

As for my own work/ shopping experiances my biggest bugbear is ignorance, ignorant cashiers who carry on their own convos are right up there with customers who continue their mobile phone convos while your trying to serve them.
There's this place in me where your fingerprints still rest, your kisses still linger, and your whispers softly echo. It's the place where a part of you will forever be a part of me.

I would have found that conversation with the cashier awkward too OP. My gut reaction to your post is that the woman is trying to come to terms with something huge. Talking about it so blatantly whilst doing her job is not ideal. Maybe she needs to find an outlet like a counsellor to help her through this time. Sounds like she was talking alot of bravado to me.
The best day of your life is the one on which you decide your life is your own, no apologies or excuses. No one to lean on, rely on or blame. The gift is yours - it is an amazing journey - and you alone are responsible for the quality of it. This is the day your life really begins.

I don't mind a bit of chit chat, but that was definitely TMI! Although TBH on a bad day if a checkout operator started out of the blue telling me about their artificial leg I'd be really interested and ask them how they manged to have sex!

I am a chatty person, I just can't help it, it's more and more in my nature as I have grown older.

I don't judge people who are not and I hope not to be judged by being friendly and passing the time of day with fellow human beings.

Pity the poor cashier who gets random conversations started with them.

During my 2 years on the till I had all manner of conversations, 4 requests for a date (one even ringing the store after he left to leave his number) and was dragged into arguments by warring couples.
