The Spec is fine for general use, But its expensive for that Spec at £715.

You could pick up a Dell for around £499-£550 with almost identical spec if not better

Looks fairly decent. Have a look at the MacBooks and maybe Vaios too though if you're getting something in that price range.

Thanks for the advice, I've been looking at Dell too and think this one (Inspiron 9400) looks slightly better value for the money.

Laptop specs might as well be in double Dutch, I'd be using it for films/music/surfing/photography - that general kind of thing - would the two laptops I've linked to cut the mustard with that sort of thing?

Yes they will easily cope with what you want to do.

The 9400 has a better processor and a dedicated graphics card and 17" screen over the Compaq and is cheaper.

The compaq does have 2GB memery over the Dells 1GB. but you can get cheap memory from like ebuyer or cruicial.com if required.

By the way, If you decide to go for the Dell, whatever you do, do not upgrade your memory by them as they charge a premium price for memory, otherwise they are pretty good.

Yeah I noticed they wanted something like £94 for an extra gig of memory
