Hi all just wondering how this works:
I am buying a car, will still be registered keeper on a car till the private plate gets sorted, it won't be on the road it will be on private bodyshop type premises till I get amended docs.
My question is this: how does this work when I buy the new car? I will get the new v5 on Friday if I want it, and can get my insurance changed then too, tax has been bought for both cars

Whats the issue? You phone the company and tell them you are changing cars. From date/time you want cover transferred to the new car.
Whether you drive it or not.. They will tell you how much you need to pay for the admin fee and new premium.. You pay it and your sorted.
Obviously if the cars not on that plate yet you may have a problem with their system. The plate may say a ford when its really a vauxhall..
So you may need to use the original reg them update them when its swapped over. Avoid this though because there maybe another admin fee to update the reg..

One hitch now is that it is all very well telephoning your insurer but due to the ineptness of some companies, there is no guarantee that your car IS covered until you receive an updated insurance certificate or cover note in your own hand. The car might still appear as uninsured on the database used by cameras and the police so you could be stopped and fined and without that cover document things can get very messy. At a minimum, I would ask for a copy of the new certificate or a cover note to be emailed and print that off before taking the car on the road.0
