Quoting from posts in these forums

Hi All
How do posters manage to get those very clear little boxes containing message quotes they wish to comment on, into their own posts, please?
I have tried copy and paste, and also pressing the "Quote", button, but this just seems to produce a few lines of text without the borders around it.

You use the quote button as you've said, when you're editing the post you won't see the formatting but any text which has quote and /quote in square brackets at the start and end will be formatted as you've described. Clicking the preview post button will show what your post will look like complete with formatting.

It took you 4,866 posts to work out that not everybody who asks questions here has good technical skills?

Not sure how much technical skill beyond reading is needed to spot that every post contains a button marked Quote.

He'd spotted that but hadn't realised that the draft text it produces would look like the quotes he'd seen. I think it's obvious too but as the question was asked it clearly isn't obvious to everybody.

He managed to join the forum (in 2005!) which takes a whole lot more "technical skill" than using the "quote" button.

Regardless, my remarks were not meant to be taken exception to. I was just pointing out that he managed 270 posts (and seven years) without realising the quote function is easily and quickly available to everyone.

The point is that one might reasonably have expected his natural curiosity to have been piqued long before now...
