I think this has been going on for quite a few years, but it is only recently they have admitted to it.

I think GCHQ could always have a listen in if it fancied it and had nothing better to do.
I'd find it quite handy becuase I can't always remember what I said, when I said it, can't find an email I sent, can't remember which really interesting website I came across when I was having an idle bit of a surf.
It will be like having a PA, without the need to buy them presents at birthday and Christmas time.

Add to this the fact that the roadside cameras log all vehicle journeys and save the data for 10 years and all public transport CCTV images stored then you realise that we no longer have any privacy.

Don't remember any political parties including these things in their manifestos either.

I think these listening posts watch out for words such as terrorist Mossad Al Quaeda etc.
I expect someone is compiling a suitable lexicon for oldies. Like Winter Fuel Allowance, Pension Credits, Age UK, that sort of thing.

There is little need for any additional monitoring - the two "loves" of modern day life, the credit card and the mobile phone, already do a great job of tracking every move you make.
